It's even worse than being uninformed, it's being purposely misinformed, by politicians who have trained large parts of the public to ignore facts and listen to them instead. I need to go re-read 1984 while I still can.

I would argue that particular surrogacy was handled by religion, especially fundamentalist evangelicalism, in the United States of America.
For the religious, belief without evidence, and especially contrary to evidence, is the highest virtue and the purest form of devotion. Blessed is he who believes without seeing.
Politicians didn’t have to do any training, unfortunately. We trained ourselves.
Yeah, wilful ignorance is far worse than plan old ignorance.
I know a very intelligent, analytical, freedom loving Republican. With every conversation, I'm more shocked he's not a hard-lined Democrat. He's not into the conspiracies or anything. It's just that everything is a bit skewed.
"I don't think he's saying that."
"Most Democrats agree."
"I just assume most politicians are like that."
"I support that, but I think states should be deciding that."
I'm like he is saying that, the Dems on Fox agree, assuming just gives a pass to offenders, and "state rights" has always just been an excuse to oppress without federal protections.
He also listens to right-wing people he disagrees with because sometimes they make a good point. In other words, he knows they're being dishonest, but sometimes he can rationalize what they say. It's willful ignorance.
There’s no easy fix for this
You can start by being honest and transparent.
This is only a misinformation problem because there is a trust problem.
There is only a trust problem because of a long history of repeatedly breaking that trust.
The absolutely last thing you want is for regulation to limit speech of the influencers. You want to give them no reason to think there is foul play. You have to fight it with the truth.
Remove corporations' and political parties' right to privacy. Privacy is for humans. Everything else goes on a public ledger.
Make all scientific publications public and free forever. Science should not be paywalled.
Always mark (not remove) misinformation and enforce a notification system on all platforms to users who saw content that later turned out to be misinformation. Always provide evidence for why it was misinformation. Make reading the misinformation notifications mandatory to keep your social media account.
Tyranny of the uninformed? No, you can't have democracy when the voters are uninformed. This has been a decades long attack on democracy via our education system by bad actors within our own governments, States and Federal. As always, The Hill has missed the mark completely and decides to double down on the blame game. Sanders was right, even if Kamala did have a plan for many things and Trump obviously has none. Its been obvious for a while now that the common people are upset with the status quo. The uneducated have been primed to elect a dictator purposefully.
Yeah this opinion piece is 180 degrees orthogonal to reality. In its content, every accusation is an addition.

The whole article reads like Blue MAGA fan fiction.

The article is effectively arguing that the left didn't cheer-lead hard enough, and its voters fault for wanting more from a candidate. And a significant portion of Lemmy drank the kool-aid and believed the exact same thing. Quite literally from the head down, moderation on this platform editorialized the front page with decisions unsupported by the posted rules of subs to skew the presentation of information in specific directions. Subs like c/PolticalMemes and c/News were crafted into echo chambers to support moderation biases. And its not a unique thing happening on Lemmy. The same things happened Reddit and other social media platforms, and mainstream media platforms. Its effect was to severely hurt the campaign because shielded them from the legitimate criticisms that they needed to be hearing. And when their staffers go in and check on social media and only see cheer-leading, this colors their impression of how things are going.
The fact is you can't abuse people into adopting your position. If you want to actually convince people of something you need to meet them where they are and address their concerns on their ground, within the context of their frame of reference. There are some deeply toxic members of this community and media writ large who skated by the previous 9 months using the ban hammer/ exclusionary practices to sculpt some very popular communities and platforms into echo chambers of their own design. And it has blown up in theirs, and all of our faces.

Please by all means. Leave. You won't be missed one bit. You do realize with one exception. You're the only one here with a heavy downvote ratio. Perhaps there's a reason behind that? Perhaps it's something you yourself did. Perhaps you were the one being "gross" and immature. Like you always do. Perhaps it's because you can't help but resort to name calling. That you never have anything constructive or helpful to offer, ever.
Seriously, why are you here? Why aren't you over with the brain-trust on hexbear. They have a larger politics community there even. You could be among your peers. Childish accelerationist with no actual insight or solutions. Throwing your shoulders out patting each other on the back. For sewing misinformation and division to help get a fascist elected. This was a clear choice between a candidate who pledged to defend America’s founding values, democracy and the rule of law
