Did someone try to censor "death"?

[–] [email protected] 40 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago) (1 children)

Yeah, the mainstream social media platforms will now have the algorithm not distribute your post, if you use double-plus ungood language. A post talking about death just isn't something advertisers fancy being displayed next to, so it doesn't need to exist.

Ok... dont use mainstream social media?

Ah, my assumption is that this post got screenshotted from Tumblr, then censored and uploaded to Instagram or whatever, and then OP found it there and posted it into this community.

A lot of problems with the experiment. He didn't even taste it.

"Mother it would be morally unethical to consume these legumes"

Died because he wouldn't run through a bean field (allegedly)

He really did hate beans, but the "spawned from the same source" and the "experiment" seem like bs.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Yeah, the most widely shared experiment from what I can tell is:

"Pythagoras conducted a scientific experiment demonstrating that humans and beans were spawned from the same source. He took some beans and buried them in the mud. They rested there for a few weeks before being removed and investigated by the great Greek philosopher. He concluded they looked like human fetuses."

But even that doesn't actually have any decent evidence.

"Experiment" is a tool of the modern science. The usage of this word in this context is not appropriate.

There is no evidence. There either is a source which mentions this or there isn't one. I have not seen, nor found such a source. The story is most likely made up by some modern idiot.

This story is also beyond ridiculous. I wonder how many human fetuses an average ancient greek has seen, but surely, it can't be that many.

Ghaaa, now I feel like such a sucker for believing that a^2 = b^2 + c^2 all this fricking time. Fool me once, Pythagoras!!

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 weeks ago

Well, you are a sucker if you believe that, because the correct equation is a² + b² = c². Unless for some weird reason your part of the world labels the hypotenuse as "a".

And a real hero

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (2 children)

Is that true? Were beans even present at the time and location of Pythagoras?

[–] janus2 5 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

chickpeas and fava beans are native to the Mediterranean region I think

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 weeks ago

And beans exist pretty much everywhere.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Partly. I never heard about the smell part. He planted them and observed that the bean stalk sprouting out of the bean resembled the way a human grows in the womb. That's why they thought the beans contain human souls.

Hmm, that even crazier actually.

I don't trust sect leaders. I eat beans !
