It's currently one of several theories of why Stalin evolved to have a mustache.

the latest research does not support the filter feeder mustache theory. The Stalin's diet of millions of pounds of grain suggests the development of a large spooning mechanism (despite lack of fossil evidence).

the evidence was there, but the brits stole it. they now keep it in a top secret facility in cramlington.

Some say it filtered revisionism out of the very air itself before it could reach his nose.

Maybe not Stalin, but Engels very clearly had a sick Baleen.

Stalin did not eat. He received all the energy he needed from revolutionary optimism.

His mustache in fact functioned as a combine harvester, with the grain then issuing out of his signature pipe and into a hamper, and harvest many a field he did in those early days of equipment shortage. Goebbels of course twisted it around to say Stalin was eating the grain, and now even many Communists repeat the claim.
