It's about a desire for wealth. They see where the money is and want in on it. Also it's relatively low-skill and non-university than most professions. Bryan Quimby on Guys Podcast said like half the class his daughter just graduated in, the ones who weren't going to university or weren't planning to said they wanted to go into real estate. Which makes me think it's not even like they crave it that badly, it's just a backup plan they have because they gave up interest and hope in anything else.

Survivorship Bias, basically. The presentation of data is filtered out by physical circumstances.

No one has ever been "i saw _____ on youtube" and it ever been anything morally good, very occasionally my IRL friend will reference a YT video essay or something, but otherwise it's usually something frivolous (not necessarily bad) or some heinous culture war shit.

Ukraine is bombing Russia near Finnish border | TheFinnishBolshevik

Blogpost version: https://mltheory.wordpress.com/2024/09/29/ukraine-is-bombing-russia-near-the-finnish-border/

According to Russian and international media, Ukrainian drones have struck against a Russian airfield in Murmansk, at least twice this month. The earliest attack was on September 11. The news first reached most Finnish people when Finnish tabloids reported that Russia blames Finland for this attack. There was never any doubt that the drones were Ukrainian, but some Russian sources (mostly just posts on social media etc.) claimed that Finland or Norway might be the launching area of the Ukrainian drones.

Some music communities are better for this than others. Metal has a million resources and people from all over the world. You can get like blogs, podcasts, archives of bands, relationship charts, theory books. People (outside of Reddit) will give you a bunch of generally good recommendations.

Meanwhile classical is basically locked behind randomly cruising YouTube, looking for old LP records at higher-end music shops, and music education.

Any sort of folk music has basically nothing unless you specifically live in the place that folk music is from.

I like '80s/'90s synthy new age music and that's got basically nothing outside RYM and whatever Vaporwave artists are sampling, or if it's a side project of someone who became a movie or game music composer.

View people as something more than dopamine sponges connected to a hive computer.

You need a more holistic, complex view of why people listen to music other than viewing some people as categorically different and ignoring the relationship between them and the art they're shown and more specifically the contexts of it. Borderline techbro understanding of art and humanity.

It wasn't the algorithms, it was the external resources that people were using that led people to find albums that boosted them in algorithms. You're not gunna' algorithm you're way out of mass-conformity and blandness.

... inherent power dynamic issues when 'shipping various digimon. SICK of having this argument. Once they're adult level or higher, it's plausibly CONSENSUAL.

Earlier this summer I was riding along a new bike lane under construction when I came across this poster: “Help save our neighbourhood. Big new bike path endangers schoolchildren, removes parking, and was imposed without neighbourhood consultation.” It advertised a meeting to take action and organize resistance at a local church, so I went to see what they had to say.

Insane Canadian shitlibs argue against bike lanes.

Call it a Tamemoji. It gets its own column on your profile page complete with its stats. It evolves digi-like across emojis sharing keywords. Not sure how we'd tier them though.

It was a liberal party doing it with a new woman leader and the people protesting treated as some kind of total misunderstanding of reality or an excuse for government crackdown for conspiratorial reasons.

I imagine this is more or less how it would go if it really happened. Maybe if it had more enforced air ventilation/quality upgrades in buildings and expansions to health services and workers right to stay home sick it'd go over better, but I kinda' doubt it too.
