Crying lowers stress for whatever complex neurochemical reasons. Could be an accident of evolution.

Babies can't talk, so it's probably a way to communicate to the parents and illicit an instinctive response.

Eyes are important for survival, and also susceptible to debris and damage. Babies are inexperienced and explore and experiment with their surroundings in dumb ways. So if a baby is hurt or upset, it might make sense to flush the eyes out just in case. If an eye irritant is the reason the baby is upset, the cost of a few tears is very low compared to the value of the eyes.

A lot of animal behaviors emerged via evolution because they "just work" in certain situations in the wild. They don't always make a lot of sense to us today, sitting indoors in front of our screens. But they worked well enough for some scenarios to carry forward.

Omnibus with Ken Jennings and John Roderick is very entertaining and educational. You'll either love the chemistry between the hosts or find them insufferable.

I still see a few people wearing masks in public. I know some local / state laws can be problematic. If you want to wear one, more power to you!

If every MBA on the planet were suddenly teleported to Planet MBA....would anyone really miss them?

Good idea! A few have already replied!

I'm not saying I'd demand a functional set of Doctor Doom armor, but I'm not saying I wouldn't.

What a fun read. Thank you.

Yup. And some of us actually do like those kinds things. If that makes me ridiculous...that also sounds accurate. I can be.

(I'm not saying a spreadsheet or a database gets me as excited as getting a new puppy. But as far as work shit goes, I'd much rather deal with data than people.)

That one for sure...or: Here's a shiny new thing, customers. You didn't ask for it, and it actually makes our product a little bit worse...but it's new. You don't want to miss out on the new thing, do you?

House of cards is exactly right. At every IT job I've worked, the bosses want to check the DRP box as long as it costs as close to zero dollars as possible, and a day or two of 1-2 people writing it up. I do my best to cover my own ass, and regularly do actual restores, limit potential blast radii, and so on. But at a high level, bosses don't give AF about defense, they are always on offense (i.e. make more money faster).

“I don’t really look for the government to do anything for you,” he said. “It’s more like just stay out of my way.”

Same people are probably 100% fine with the government not allowing women access to modern birth control and reproductive care choices.

They have this fantasy where they imagine "no government" would be awesome. Meanwhile, there's plenty of shithole countries without a functioning government. They could move to one of those if they are serious and want to try that kind of life.

Looking for something engaging and interactive (preferably free, but I don't mind paying a reasonable price). Thanks for your suggestions!
