Are you volunteering to moderate the community?

Now you can use the little paper icon to the left of the reply in the comment to show the comment source, copy that and when you paste it into a comment next time it should ping.

Mods have an option to "remove user content" when community or site banning which removes all the posts of comments but doesn't create a modlog entry. It is a bug that is being fixed (I think in 0.19.4) ironically a lemmy.world/c/politics mod did it for someone who posted too many Biden bad stories and no one is claiming lemmy.world mods are editing the database

no worries if you or no one else wants to step in you are welcome to lock it (set it to only moderators can post) and we consider it shuttered until someone wants to take it back up

If the moderator wants to lock them they can be shuttered as is otherwise they can be removed. Removed communities can be restored at any time they are just not visible/interactable to users. In short the posts and comments cannot be seen/interacted with unless restored at a later time, where as a locked/shuttered community would have visible/interactable posts/comments but nothing new can be made

there was a previous feature (pre-federation) that hid the community from the all feed if a user wasn't subscribed to it which was referred to as a private community but is actually a hidden community. The feature being added in 19.4 prevents the community from federating out or being seen without a local user account

Hello users of hexbear after some discussion we mainly wanted to get your thoughts on the two pinned megathreads, one general and one news.

We've noticed that the news mega has basically become the general mega and the general mega has kinda slowed. Some are thinking that it might be time to tell people to stop posting random shit to the news mega because some appreciate the ever so slightly more serious, focused tone of the news mega

As of now there is not much of a standard for comments however we wanted to discuss with you regarding making a change. Where the news megathread is for discussion on current events and their history/implications for future while the general megathread is for commenting on one's life, interests, or for shit-posting.

This would result in the news megathread being more heavily moderated to actively remove comments that are a better fit for the general megathread or off topic.

Please comment with any thoughts, opinions, comments, questions, or concerns.

What is Hexbear? (hexbear.net)
submitted 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago) by [email protected] to c/[email protected]

My answer:

When chapotraphouse was banned on reddit many mods and users came together to create a space on a link aggregator platform.

Choosing lemmy the original admin and developer team decided to fork it for various reasons. About a year ago, sustained effort was taken to upstream many of the forked features so that we could rebase with current version lemmy and federate.

Over the years hexbear has become a non-sectarian social media space for sharing news, memes, links, posts and comments with each other as the mods endeavour to make the space welcoming to marginalized people.
