When I was a teenager I nearly got arrested for trespassing. There was a way to get on top of a building and I was dared to check it out.

Police in Utrecht, in the Netherlands, found the “sneaky witness” when arresting a shoplifting subject. Politie Utrecht shared a picture of the bird on their instagram page last week. “We recently arrested a suspect for a shoplifting,” the caption said. “During the arrest we found a sneaky witness with feathers and beak on the suspect’s shoulder.”

I feel like there has to be more movies with this premise

Some ideas that came to mind:

  • What if we made a pizza pocket but with jam and peanut butter?
  • You know how Nutella on toast is one of the easiest things to make? What if we made it even easier?
  • You know how people make a cup of tea and forget about it? What if we made a sandwich that worked like this?

Just a silly thought I had when in the shower I wanted to share.

They're also called evaporator coolers. I am not sure if the word swamp refers to it performing a function that might be found around a swamp or how they operate.

Maybe the pool of water at the bottom is referred to as a swamp.

I linked the video but it's been a while since I watched it. I am not sure if he explains the nomenclature.

Kind of related but here's a video from Technology Connections if you want to learn more about swamp coolers and why they only work in specific conditions

I don't mean this in a way to dismiss your question but wouldn't that be better as a community rather than an instance? I feel like with it being such a niche topic you might have issues gaining traction in terms of growth

Immediately what comes to mind for me is the The Someguy Series for Fallout New Vegas. It's a bundle of voiced quest mods that mesh well with the base game. There's also House of Horrors for Fallout New Vegas that I recall being pretty good. I played it probably about eight years ago so I don't recall much about it though.

I've also heard a lot of good things about Stardew Valley Expanded.

What about you? What's your favorite quest mod?

I'd also be curious to hear people's thoughts on content targeting a specific theme. For example mods that are good with horror or comedy. They might not fit in well with the base game but they can be fun.

I feel like the SpongeBob movie releasing when it did probably helped the SpongeBob video game sales around that time. I recall SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom and The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie doing pretty well

I told a coworker this once and they went from saying African Americans to just loudly whisper the word black like it was a derogatory term.

[-] [email protected] 5 points 4 days ago

Bit of a weird choice but maybe Dick Figures The Movie. It was based off of an animated YouTube series and if I recall correctly they got it out near the height of their relevance. It's not like the Angry Birds movie where it acted as more of a reminder that it was a thing than anything else.

Context: I saw a post a while about Paradox Interactive cancelling their life simulation game Life By You and someone commented saying they wish Paradox Interactive would release what they've completed under an open source license. Follow up comments said it wasn't feasible largely due to a Russian nesting doll of licenses that wouldn't be compatible.

Question: What would be some obstacles in making a modern stereotypical AAA or indie game open source? Or even just segments for it for that matter?

This would be ignoring the financial impact. It would be like CD PROJEKT RED making Cyberpunk 2077 as open source as possible as a an action of good will.

Here's my hot take:

This isn't any worse than manga misspelling words to show a character has an accent.

Beatrix Amerhauser is what made me stop reading Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead.

Probably Ali Express. You can get it through other sites like Amazon or Keep Retro but chances are you'll be paying more even if it's just $10 extra for shipping. It will just take slightly longer to get to you

allows you to collect cash accumulated in safes, request vehicles and replenish ammo using your in-game phone - but only if you pay up $8 or $7 a month for a GTA+ subscription, which is currently not available on PC.

The original title of the article is "Is MIG Switch being sued?" but I wanted to make it less clickbaity.

The article by Wololo goes into more detail.

For example my keys jingling in my pocket, my jacket sleeve moving against my torso, and to a lesser extent my footsteps make me anxious. I'm curious does anyone else experiences this?

I'm not sure if it's anxiety or something grander. Wearing noise cancelling headphones helps though.

I kind of feel like the noise version of a Nightkin.

cross-posted from: https://leminal.space/post/7700398

I followed the guides that are out there that basically say the following.

  • Install Port Master and the Stardew Valley port though the app

  • In Steam right click on Stardew Valley and go to properties followed by Betas and select compatibility - For 32-bit systems. The legacy XNA version of Stardew Valley. Wait for it to update.

  • Transfer the game's files into ports/stardewvalley/game data

But every time I attempt to launch it goes to a black screen then back to the lists of ports. I am not sure if this is because I am running KNULLI. When I was searching for this online people seem to be running muOS.

I've been able to get Half Life to launch so I'm not sure what's going on here. I would appreciate some advice.

I might try the other compatibility option for Stardew Valley which is the legacy option for 1.5.6 but I don't think that will do anything either.

The TL:DR of my edits is I still haven't gotten it to work. Once I saw that it worked in muOS I started looking into the differences between the two and trying to transfer them over to KNULLI. All my searching online says that it's an issue with mono but the files are there. muOS and KNULLI have different directory layouts so I am wondering if some folder isn't in the correct location.

Troubleshooting Edits:

Edit: Using muOS works. I'm using the same setup process for each firmware so I'm not sure what's happening here. I thought it might be an issue with the .sh file pointing to the wrong directory but I compared it to the Half Life one and it looks pretty similar. There is a log file in the Stardew Valley folder that mentioned a SIGSEGV while executing native code. It says this is usually an error in mono runtime or one of the native libraries.

It goes into more detail but it says

warning: unable to find libthread_db matching inferior's thread library, thread debugging will not be available.

0x0000007f8fded794 in wait4 () from /lib/libc.so.6

I might try to post the entire log file in its entirety later today.

Edit 2: I decided to look more into mono but it hasn't really turned up anything. I thought I might be missing some kind of mono file but I compared the two firmwares and both have the mono-6.12.0.122-aarch64.squashfs file in \PortMaster\libs\ and the various mono files in \ports\stardewvalley\dlls. When searching for "mono" on the KNULLI firmware I do have an empty mono folder. I also tried reinstalling mono through PortMaster but it did nothing. After reinstalling Stardew Valley it seems like it auto-installs along with it.

Edit 3: I tried to down-grade PortMaster by deleting the folder and .sh file and downloading an older version from GitHub to match the version muOS uses but I may have done this incorrectly because PortMaster is no longer launching.

I found several other posts detailing the same issue or similar issues. The setup guide for Stardew Valley by RetroGamesCorps has multiple people in the comments mentioning it, the GitHub page for KNULLI has an issue post about this (it can be found here where I believe they attempted to launch the Stardew Valley .sh file through the file manager app Commander, and on subreddits like /r/RG35XX_H and /r/SBCGaming people are talking about PortMaster games not launching or launching after several attempts.

I tried messing with the Stardew Valley .sh file to see if changing the monofile line to use the address of the mono squashfs file would help but that didn't seem to do anything.

My next step will probably be to use the Steam console to download a specific version of the game. Some have said that might work. It all seems so sporadic. People have been able to get it working and comment on the triggers being reversed and others can't seem to get it all.

I like KNULLI because it reminds me of AmberELEC with the video previews and I think you can set it up so games display whether they have RetroAchievements from the selection screen but I may end up switching over muOS at this rate.

I haven't been able to get achievements to display either but I am doing one thing at a time.

I was considering making a 30+ TB NAS to simplify and streamline my current setup but because it's a relatively low priority for me I am wondering is it worth it to hold off for a year or two?

I am unsure if prices have more or less plateaued and the difference won't be all that substantial. Maybe I should just wait for Black Friday.

For context it seems like two 16TB HDD would cost about $320 currently.

Here's some related links:

  • This article by Our World in Data contains a chart with how the price per GB has decreased overtime.

  • This article by Tom's Hardware talks about how in July 2023 SSD prices bottomed out before climbing back up predicted further increases in 2024.

I am playing through it for the first time and I know it has a rich modding scene so I'm wondering what is out there.

I would be curious about quality of life mods like bug fixes and graphical improvements. I'm not super interested in rebalance mods at this time.

That said feel free to mention any mods you've really enjoyed. I'd be interested to hear about those as well.

Please avoid spoilers. I am planning to play each game soon.

If you follow this community you are likely already aware of a majority of what this video covers. It seems to have been created as a response to the take down of ROMs on Vimm's Lair.

It's a 14 minute video by Modern Vintage Gamer that talks about ROM take downs and how Internet Archive ROM sets have managed to stay up (the Internet Archive page explaining this can be found here), the challenge of dumping games, and how Nintendo isn't doing enough for fans.

The picture I linked is of a buckwheat pillow. Had no idea they were a thing before today.

What about silk or bamboo pillow cases?

I've only ever really used cotton pillow cases and cotton stuffed pillows. I recently upgraded to a foam pillow that I'm enjoying.

Here is what TechRadar said

The game is billed as a prequel to the modern Doom series, which includes 2016's Doom and Doom Eternal. It will focus on the origins of the enigmatic Slayer and feature a never-before-seen medieval war against hell. Judging from everything shown in the trailer, it looks like a pretty radical departure from the more futuristic, sci-fi look other the other games.

Like the two previous installments, Doom: The Dark Ages is being developed by id Software and is powered by the idTech game engine.

A recent post from the official Doom X / Twitter account has also confirmed that the game will be available as part of an Xbox Game Pass subscription. It will be launching for Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, PC and, rather surprisingly, PlayStation 5.

Here are some other articles about it but I imagine most of the information is the same:

What do you think? Do you believe it will play similar to DOOM Eternal?
