Disagree, the people OP mentioned probably want slavery and corporal punishment back

Meanwhile, the US reportedly responded with: "Nuh uh! china under the bed is spying on you!"

Dang. It took until I saw that https://www.infowars.com/posts/not-so-fast-judge-halts-infowars-sale-to-onion-due-to-shady-auction-procedures had Alex Jones' Twitter in red from Shinigami Eyes to realize that this wasn't supposed to be an Onion parody, because it would really be funny for the Onion to have pretended this was the case if it weren't

Depending on the age of the person, they might simply not care about the difference, in the same way people inaccurately call gen Z millenials

Translation: After making an obviously weak show of pretending to care about Palestine, the US government makes shocking revelation that it was just an obviously weak show of pretending to care about Palestine.

Just so it's clear since it's The Onion reporting, this one is actually a real story.

really the only good place for it.

It's also funny, because the US representative takes time to explicitly point out that the US voted against this resolution since it was first proposed in 2005.

US remarks start at 1 hour 57 minutes here: https://webtv.un.org/en/asset/k1r/k1r1ng1nb2

Oh, got it, it's a Third Committee vote. UN press release: https://press.un.org/en/2024/gashc4428.doc.htm

Disappointing they had to add paragraph 4 again

Can you provide a source for the vote? The best I can find is 78/190 from last year (source: https://research.un.org/en/docs/ga/quick/regular/78) and that resolution had contained this unfortunate clause, which many of the countries had spoken after their vote to disassociate from:

  1. Notes with alarm that the Russian Federation has sought to justify its territorial aggression against Ukraine on the purported basis of eliminating neo-Nazism, and underlines that the pretextual use of neo-Nazism to justify territorial aggression seriously undermines genuine attempts to combat neo-Nazism;

Excerpt of China's statement, for instance:

We are deeply concerned about the practice by a small number of countries of politicizing certain agenda items in the Third Committee. In view of that, China dissociates itself from the consensus on paragraph 4 of resolution 78/190.

In addition, that vote doesn't match the map you provide.

Also the United States' remarks on 78/190 were very telling:

We also do not need to repeat our long-standing position on this annual resolution. We have been one of several countries to vote against it from the very beginning.

If I understand correctly, the infighting was due to non-admin wreckers, which led to an instance being banned from Hexbear's allow list, and the way it was handled by admins, which ultimately led to TC69 leaving Hexbear yet again, not so much the actual change itself. What could have been a minor change blew up into a major incident.

No, Ukraine did. South Korea just backed them up.

See https://lemmygrad.ml/post/6007978:

It started when Kyiv Independent quoted a “Western source” that the DPRK has sent 10.000 troops to Russia

...

The latest “evidence” posted of these supposed DPRK soldiers “fighting for” Russia is two videos without a date or location, but purportedly from Russia’s far east. In both videos you can hear Korean being spoken. In one video they are outside training, and in the other they are receiving Russian uniforms.

The Western media can’t even get their story straight though. First they reported that South Korea’s intelligence has said 12000 DPRK soldiers are fighting for Russia in Ukraine but then they revised their story to say 1500 DPRK troops are fighting for Russia. If you look at the CNN url, you will see that it still says “12000 troops”, although the title and the body of the article have changed.

Tankies were right after all, yet again.

South Korean intelligence officials have adopted a skeptical stance when it comes to reports from Ukraine. It’s gotten to the point where Korean intelligence officials are telling reporters to hold off on relaying reports about North Korean troops from Ukrainian officials until they receive third-party confirmation, because Ukraine makes “fake news” at the state level. This means we have to carefully consider the source of the information and the intentions behind it.

fascists of course aren’t people and cannot be treated like they’re people

Hard disagree. Fascist takes shouldn't be tolerated in an ideal government, but fascist supporters are people, even if they do monstrous things. It's important to remember that, at least for those of us in the international-community-1international-community-2, fascists are regular people you will meet in your regular life.

Lol, can we do Big Oil next?

Is this more of a dunk tank post? This just infuriated me that even the companies producing the vaccines don't even mention they exist when they're literally advertising about COVID-19. Oh, and just acting like long COVID doesn't exist is nice too...

Edit: If you click the link, which goes to https://www.pfizerforall.com/respiratory, vaccines are mentioned only near the bottom of the page. Still no mention of long COVID

To be upfront, I'm not OP of the Lemmygrad thread. Masking obviously is important and a good thing to do for your community. Personally, however, living in a place like Texas where almost nobody still masks though, 54 months (4.5 years) after the initial declaration, and everybody says COVID is relatively a non-issue like the flu, I understand why the OP would be demoralized.

クロスポスト: https://lemmygrad.ml/post/5723508

Basically, wanted to know where people are at with mask wearing (as it relates to containing covid and all), I know it's been a while since it started. And I've seen people who say covid can still be threatening, like through long covid and such, even if the initial impact doesn't tend to be as bad. Being in the US, it's especially hard to tell what makes sense because the gov sorta gave up on containment a while back and only ever half-assed pushing mask wearing. And wearing a mask alone was a controversial thing in some places, even in the very beginning. Then there's vaccines, which of course help, but seems to be a thing like the flu where you have to get boosters to be fully covered for variant strains.

So in general, I'm wondering stuff like:

  1. Do you still wear a mask or not and why? And do you have distinctions like large crowds or anything like that?

  2. How does mask wearing compare by country, from what you know? For example, I'm sure China has a more pro-mask-wearing culture and policy overall, but I'm not clear on where they're at this late into it.

Partly asking cause I want to re-assess my own position on it, see if it makes sense to change it at all by now. I've still been doing it, in part out of inertia, but the US management of it is such a mess, in gov and culture, it's hard to tell when it makes sense to stop vs. just caving to peer pressure of people who were never acting responsibly to begin with.

It's been linked occasionally in mega-posts about the topic but worth mentioning specifically since the aforementioned assessment is probably the best evidence of human rights issues that libs can point to
