Indy folks, what do you think of it? I've only ever driven through, and I have to say it seems like a complete black hole of culture and human souls. More semi trucks than cars on the roads make it feel like the clogged arteries of the capitalist economy. Can't say as I've seen an actual house, but whole neighborhoods of distribution centers. Lots of religious billboards, Lawyers too. An abnormal amount of aggressive drivers too.

I know just driving through a place and judging it based on how American and shitty it is, is ironic. But it just seems like it sucks. What are your thoughts Hexbears?

Isn’t the whole premise of Indianapolis “what if a truck stop had a million people?”

a big problem with indy specifically is that the state government undermines the fuck out of anything even remotely good the city tries to do, like dedicated bus lanes.

that was such a depressing news story to read about

I gorged myself on their insanely plentiful entemann’s bakery factory dumpster. It was insane and glorious! Soooo fucking good.

Also it’s the first place i ever smoked weed. Graham cracker bears danced on my tongue.

But Indianapolis is still a racist racist racist fucking shithole otherwise.

the downtown area is an unwalkable hell in most regards. it's like one square mile with no one in it.

I recently was on a lot there that was easily 12 acres for 1 building, and the floorplan felt like an FPS.

This is maybe damning with faint praise… but most large midwestern cities abut against a river or lake. This means the downtown is not central but rather off kilter from how the city grew. This makes traffic and getting around that much worse.

So while America’s lack of public transportation makes getting around in any city pretty awful, Indianapolis is among the better cities to commute in or get from A to B in a car. Because without any significant natural boundaries, the city has an actual central core and the city grew more or less evenly from there. And Indianapolis is small enough that this expansion hasn’t gotten so large that it takes forever to get from one side of town to the other.

But none of this would be an issue in an actual good country with public transportation and cities designed with even a modicum of foresight.

That’s because everyone leaves because it sucks.

I only know about the car event and describing it as semi central fits that mental image to a t.

OMG I want to contribute to this discussion so badly, but I've never been anywhere near there. Please more comments.

Broadripple is a neighborhood there. It wasn’t that bad. That’s all i got other than my other comment.

Goodnight!

It's in the US. I give it a 0/10 for that.

The only redeeming feature of Indiana is the Eugene debs museum in Terre haute

[–] [email protected] 7 points 6 months ago

Lived there for two years and thought is was alright, but not many places to meet people without first spending a shit ton of money

[–] [email protected] 4 points 6 months ago

I don't know where on a map it or it's state is, 2/10
