I remember hearing that owls are basically flying cats. Or birds that have installed cat software.

Owls are the real outdoor cats. outdoor-cat nowai

Owl in Chinese is 猫头鹰, lit. Cat headed eagle.

Other fun animals in Chinese:

企鹅, lit. Business/enterprise goose (penguin)

袋鼠, lit. Pouch rat (kangaroo)

树懒, lit. Tree lazy (sloth)

熊猫, lit. Bear cat (Panda)

长颈鹿, lit. Long neck deer (Giraffe)

龙虾, lit. Dragon shrimp (lobster)

驼鹿, lit. Camel deer (moose)

浣熊, lit. Washing bear (racoon)

Its funny how universal some of these animal observations are. Everyone recognizes the penguin drip tux-shining

can other birds be this snuggly?

Cockatoos, cockatiels, and parakeets but they're all loud and bite without warning. Female rheas and ostriches can be really cuddly and more predictable. I knew an ostrich that would lay down and stretch out her wings for belly rubs while the rheas followed humans around like bird dogs.

edit: And hens. Silky chickens in particular are so affectionate but if you get them in a group hens are vicious toward each other.

i have heard about hens because my partner hates them so much but they apparently jump in their lap for pets (back when their dad had them)

damn affectionate ostrich would be so cool

like having a velociraptor snuggle up to you

Yep, I've had pet hens in the past, couldn't do anything in the backyard without them running over, and they would always jump in our laps for pats the instant we sat down. The only thing they loved more was pooping in their drinking water.

I have a memory when I was very young staying in a farm in Wales and being able to stroke the hens whilst they were laying. They were so soft and cute.

Female rheas for cuddling, male rheas for tearing your enemies appart.
