my friend and I played the shit out of this because of how fast and fatal the fights could be in an instant. in a time when there were so many fighting games, this one really stood apart in a smart way.
Not sure if they included it in #2, but you could definitely toss dirt or snow in the first game. I think it was considered a "dishonourable tactic" though.

in the context of PvP games, I have been told many times in various ways that I fight without honor. it is one of the few things about games I take pride in.
Never played 2 but I played the shit outta the first one. The blood splatter for a fatal hit was much more satisfying.
I remember in the first one you could clip the weapon into your opponents dead body during the victory pose and it made the game go crazy playing the blood animation lol
I remember really enjoying the first person view even if it was nearly unplayable
