Consoles are kinda...restrictive. You might want to pick a PC with a modern AMD Ryzen processor. The integrated GPUs in them are so damn good, and they make it even smaller than a console. It's just that devs refuse to optimize games for PC.
Besides, AAA games kinda suck in 2024. Why not try out some 2D platformer-style indie games?

this one's an snes romhack, i never liked the GBA version of ff6 the audio is super wonky. my current go-to for playing ff6 is the pixel remaster; fitgirl has like 1 thru 6 of those repacked up on her site somewhere.

In the 7000 series, excluding the 7040 (Zen4, RDNA3) aka Phoneix and 7045 (Zen4, RDNA2) aka Dragon Range, the rest of them are faux-7000 (see edit below for exceptions) - basically, refresh of older architecture - so do not pick them.
Phoenix is the only one here with Zen 4 and RDNA3, while Dragon Range has Zen 4, but RDNA2 GPU - the 610M, which is quite weak - which means that we shouldn't be picking 7045 CPUs, but the 7040 ones.
Within the 7040 series, 7440U (never sold with this name, but instead rebranded as X1 for gaming handheld, maybe there's a mini-PC or SBC out there?), 7540U and 7545U are all good budget processors, however, they come with the 740M with a measly 4CU.
7640U/H/HS comes with the 760M, which is kinda decent at 8CU. However, 7840U/H/HS and 7940H/HS comes with the 780M at 12CU, which is 4 extra compute units.
Now, in the 8000 series,the 8040 aka Hawk Point is also a refresh - however, they're based on the 7040. So, basically, 7040 ≈ 8040, with slightly better NPU aka AI chip (10 vs 16 TOPs). You follow the same rule as above, but replace the preceding 7 with a 8.
If you want the meanest and the baddest breed, you can have the Strix Point, with the lastest Zen5 processor and the newer RDNA3.5 GPU. Both the 365 and HX370 are simply amazing APUs, with 880M (12CU) and 890M (16CU). They're yet to be launched, I think.
Edit: in the 6000 (Zen 3+, RDNA2) and 7035 (6000 refresh, basically) series, there's a iGPU with 680M. They're slightly better than 760M, maybe because of the CU count. You can get them for cheap. Namely the 6800U/HS/H, 6900HS/HX, 6980HS/HX, and the 7335U/H/HS, 7336U.

No, some of them have the 780M, so do look out for them. The 680M is kinda good, but I'd ignore that for being old.

The Strix Point may be what you're looking for. However the game you've mentioned here - Alan Wake 2 - struggles with even the RTX 3000 and 4000 series GPU - just wanted to let you know that this game is terribly optimized.

Yeah it's also a dogshit game, this much is true of Callisto Protocol as well, but I use their numbers as a metric for future proofing, kinda. If a GPU can't run this now, how bad is it gonna be in a year?

You need to give some love to games like Hollow Knight, Noita and Triangle Strategy. The triple-A game scene will be getting worse soon.

Anyways, if you remember the shared memory tech used in Xbox and older PlayStations, which made use of the AMD processors, they used to have shared RAM for CPU and GPU. Those were primitive tech, and limited to atmost 2 or 4GB. I've heard that AMD is bringing that for PCs, desktop and laptop alike, so the performance gains may be really phenomenal. This one is be called the Strix Halo, aka the Medusa Point, and right now, it is being tested for cache and RAM sharing (I think, I may be wrong tho) - it's called the Infinity Fabric or something.
But you'll have to wait till 2025.
Metroidvania is cringe, but I'm literally playing Celeste right now, having just finished Tactics Ogre, and then I'm gonna play Fata Morgana. I agree, but if that's your bag then you don't need to consider any of this. A GTX 1050Ti will suffice for that, the point of stressing about big games running is future proofing. The last AAA game I bought was Doom Eternal, so I'm not that fussed, was only curious about APUs as a console alternative.

Infinity Fabric is the name for the interconnect between CCXs in all Ryzen CPUs... I've never been clear on how memory sharing works in consoles 'cause Idek, I tend to view it the same as all iGPUs do it, that you just allocate however much (2GB, 4GB) memory to GPU and the rest to the CPU.
I would be hesitant of getting hyped for any memory sharing stuff AMD talks about--back when they were still doing Modules with shared elements in Bulldozer and Piledriver architectures, their APU line featured a bit of this functionality with the Mantle API - Heterogenous System Architecture, or HSA for short. AMD talked a lot of shit about how cool it was for the processor and graphics parts of the APU to access the same memory, and how cool it was that they would be treated "equally" computationally. They dropped this idea hardcore when Ryzen launched because it was basically a GPU-shaped crutch for their garbage CPUs, and the marketing talk was all cope, lol
What's the point of getting a PS5 or Xbox instead of a PC?
The series x/s is largely just an Xbox one two, whereas the ps5 feels like an actual step up.

I've played friends Series X before and really like the PS5 compared to it, but fwiw I only personally have put more than a few hours into anything but the PS5 since I only own a PS5/PC. The DS5 controllers are probably the best iteration of them in my opinion but they are $80.00/controller so

Game consoles have too much tax in this country so I could get a 32 gb ram 7500 ryzen and 4070 prebuilt pc for a price close to ps5. You can get a prebuilt for cheap if you hunt for deals

I have neither, but I would not scoff at a PS5, for some of the exclusives (like tlou) or games that my pc can't handle. There are no exclusives on the xbox that interest me

Not sure either. I have a series S, a switch lite and a PS5. Haven't used a Series X yet.
Main obstacle I see is, the PS5 runs some PS4 games really well, cool exclusives like Bloodborne, Gravity Rush, Tearaway... what's the Xbox got? Did Xbox One have gaems? 
Backwards compatibility is actually where xbox shines. A solid amount of games from the 360 and xbone will play right off the disk on a series x. When they drop in price they'll be worth picking up as a retro machine.
Meanwhile sony has a pathetic library of their classics and you have to rebuy them all digitally.
I disagree =) I mean sure, it plays a couple 360 games but A) it's like 600 out of a library of 2100, which is a step back from the 360's already poor ~570/1100 original Xbox games, B) while good stuff like Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey are available, it's missing a bunch of critical 360 bangers like PGR 3 and 4, Amped 3, the Forza Motorsport games, basically anything with licensing issues is screwed forever. On the PS3 I did not have to wait for Sony to work out the rights on the Wipeout Fusion soundtrack before putting it in my PS3!
A lot of the 360 BC is filled out with games that are way better either on PC or in a modern rerelease on SX: original Mass Effect 3 is backward compat? Okay... Looking at it pragmatically, a PS5 completely replaces a PS4, and runs literally every game (bar like three nobody cares about) better than a PS4. A Series X will never be a 360 replacement, I still need a 360, so I don't think SX BC is that useful. I would rather have the full PS4 library than like a quarter of 360 games. I have to keep both a 360 and PS3 anyway, so...
I still have a ps3 and 360, but the ps3 gets more use because all my favourites on 360 can be played better elsewhere.
If i wanna play Infamous I can't get that anywhere, the ratchet and clank games are nowhere to be found. The Jak games got rereleased, but they're expensive. Sony totally abandoned their back catalogue. The original ps3 model had good backwards compatibility, but those aren't very available and also will eventually break if you actually use it.
I mean, sure, you can play the soundtrack of some more games? But i don't think many people are still putting in their ost cds in their consoles.
It's true that most 360 headliners got onboard the ark. Halo games, the Gears games are about to get rereleased, Dead Rising, stuff like that. But there are some games that have no PC port (Forza 4, PGR 3/4, Import Tuner, the Ubisoft Naruto games, Crackdown) and even for the ones that're backward compat (Lost Odyssey, Blue Dragon) it's no way worth getting an XB One or SX when not all 360 games work anyway.
I will admit my PS3 gets more use too, partly because I installed PS3HEN on it so I can 
and also because yeah, the exclusives are way better. Infamous 1 & 2, every Motorstorm game, Demon's Souls, LittleBigPlanet 1 & 2, The Puppeteer, Folklore, all that good shit. Also there are some games that are on other platforms but end up better on PS3 anyway, like Alone in the Dark Inferno or Fatal Interia EX =)
This is going to sound like an ad regardless of how I say it but I have both and I basically never use the PS5. I have small children though and game pass has been incredible for giving us a constant stream of entertainment for years now. We did really enjoy PS5 the first year or two but just kinda dropped off after a while.
Thats where Microsoft shines (as much as the shitheads can) is if you're a broke ass gamer (like most of us hexbears). Game pass is an amazing deal, probs the best deal in gaming until micro inevitably raises the price.

Honestly I still have to give credit where credit is due. As much as everyone's struggling lately, it's the perfect deal 200 dollar Series S on sale or used, and then game pass.
PS5 by a long shot. I have both, Series X is more powerful, a lot of multiplatform games run slightly better on it, and it’s backwards compatibility is great for playing older games that don’t have PC ports in high def (ex. RDR1 runs at 4k on Series X), but it’s overall just a worse console with worse games. Plus if literally can’t be set up without internet connection and when XBl went down the other day it became a literal brick, wouldn’t even play my disc based games.
