Welcome to c/news! Please read the Hexbear Code of Conduct and remember... we're all comrades here.

Rules:

-- PLEASE KEEP POST TITLES INFORMATIVE --

-- Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed. --

-- All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. --

-- If you are citing a twitter post as news please include not just the twitter.com in your links but also nitter.net (or another Nitter instance). There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/libredirect/ or archive them as you would any other reactionary source using e.g. https://archive.today/ . Twitter screenshots still need to be sourced or they will be removed --

-- Mass tagging comm moderators across multiple posts like a broken markov chain bot will result in a comm ban--

-- Repeated consecutive posting of reactionary sources, fake news, misleading / outdated news, false alarms over ghoul deaths, and/or shitposts will result in a comm ban.--

-- Neglecting to use content warnings or NSFW when dealing with disturbing content will be removed until in compliance. Users who are consecutively reported due to failing to use content warnings or NSFW tags when commenting on or posting disturbing content will result in the user being banned. --

-- Using April 1st as an excuse to post fake headlines, like the resurrection of Kissinger while he is still fortunately dead, will result in the poster being thrown in the gamer gulag and be sentenced to play and beat trashy mobile games like 'Raid: Shadow Legends' in order to be rehabilitated back into general society. --

Image is of Joseph Robinette Biden, who has stepped down and will not run against Trump in the 2024 election.

In the aftermath of Trump surviving an assassination attempt, many professional opinion-havers are now talking about the scourge of "political violence" that has overtaken, or will soon overtake America, and how we must not let chaos rule. This is, of course, patently absurd. The American government and its allies have been the greatest force of political violence on the planet since the beginning of colonialism, and the foundations of the country are made of corpses. Today, America commits political violence by forcing Ukrainians into the maw of Russian artillery instead of trying to reach a peaceful settlement, which Russia has repeatedly expressed interest in and offered Ukraine relatively favourable terms. They supply Israel with endless weaponry to destroy entire cities and populations, while Biden supporters insist that somehow things could be worse than daily massacres and mass starvation.

In May 1945, French police fired on protestors, causing retaliatory attacks on French settlers, killing about a hundred. In response, the French murdered 45,000 Algerians in a little under two months, in a frenzy of political violence called the Sétif and Guelma massacre. As the massacre was being completed, the International Court of Justice was established. It goes without saying that Algeria never benefited from the ICJ, and the War of Independence from 1954 to 1962 was made inevitable. Over a million Algerians were killed before France could bear the fighting no longer and gave up, and Algeria won itself a state. Comparisons to the ongoing war of independence and genocide in Palestine are obvious.

While the means of colonial violence have evolved over the centuries, the basic structure of it has not. As in Algeria, Vietnam, and Cuba, resistance groups in and around Palestine are fighting for a world with less political violence. The American government would drown every city in the developing world in blood to prevent peace.

The COTW (Country of the Week) label is designed to spur discussion and debate about a specific country every week in order to help the community gain greater understanding of the domestic situation of often-understudied nations. If you've wanted to talk about the country or share your experiences, but have never found a relevant place to do so, now is your chance! However, don't worry - this is still a general news megathread where you can post about ongoing events from any country.

The Country of the Week is Algeria! Feel free to chime in with books, essays, longform articles, even stories and anecdotes or rants. More detail here.

Israel-Palestine Conflict

If you have evidence of Israeli crimes and atrocities that you wish to preserve, there is a thread here in which to do so.

Sources on the fighting in Palestine against Israel. In general, CW for footage of battles, explosions, dead people, and so on:

UNRWA daily-ish reports on Israel's destruction and siege of Gaza and the West Bank.

English-language Palestinian Marxist-Leninist twitter account. Alt here.
English-language twitter account that collates news (and has automated posting when the person running it goes to sleep).
Arab-language twitter account with videos and images of fighting.
English-language (with some Arab retweets) Twitter account based in Lebanon. - Telegram is @IbnRiad.
English-language Palestinian Twitter account which reports on news from the Resistance Axis. - Telegram is @EyesOnSouth.
English-language Twitter account in the same group as the previous two. - Telegram here.

English-language PalestineResist telegram channel.
More telegram channels here for those interested.

Various sources that are covering the Ukraine conflict are also covering the one in Palestine, like Rybar.

Russia-Ukraine Conflict

Examples of Ukrainian Nazis and fascists
Examples of racism/euro-centrism during the Russia-Ukraine conflict

Sources:

Defense Politics Asia's youtube channel and their map. Their youtube channel has substantially diminished in quality but the map is still useful. Moon of Alabama, which tends to have interesting analysis. Avoid the comment section.
Understanding War and the Saker: reactionary sources that have occasional insights on the war.
Alexander Mercouris, who does daily videos on the conflict. While he is a reactionary and surrounds himself with likeminded people, his daily update videos are relatively brainworm-free and good if you don't want to follow Russian telegram channels to get news. He also co-hosts The Duran, which is more explicitly conservative, racist, sexist, transphobic, anti-communist, etc when guests are invited on, but is just about tolerable when it's just the two of them if you want a little more analysis.
On the ground: Patrick Lancaster, an independent and very good journalist reporting in the warzone on the separatists' side.

Unedited videos of Russian/Ukrainian press conferences and speeches.

Pro-Russian Telegram Channels:

Again, CW for anti-LGBT and racist, sexist, etc speech, as well as combat footage.

https://t.me/aleksandr_skif ~ DPR's former Defense Minister and Colonel in the DPR's forces. Russian language.
https://t.me/Slavyangrad ~ A few different pro-Russian people gather frequent content for this channel (~100 posts per day), some socialist, but all socially reactionary. If you can only tolerate using one Russian telegram channel, I would recommend this one.
https://t.me/s/levigodman ~ Does daily update posts.
https://t.me/patricklancasternewstoday ~ Patrick Lancaster's telegram channel.
https://t.me/gonzowarr ~ A big Russian commentator.
https://t.me/rybar ~ One of, if not the, biggest Russian telegram channels focussing on the war out there. Actually quite balanced, maybe even pessimistic about Russia. Produces interesting and useful maps.
https://t.me/epoddubny ~ Russian language.
https://t.me/boris_rozhin ~ Russian language.
https://t.me/mod_russia_en ~ Russian Ministry of Defense. Does daily, if rather bland updates on the number of Ukrainians killed, etc. The figures appear to be approximately accurate; if you want, reduce all numbers by 25% as a 'propaganda tax', if you don't believe them. Does not cover everything, for obvious reasons, and virtually never details Russian losses.
https://t.me/UkraineHumanRightsAbuses ~ Pro-Russian, documents abuses that Ukraine commits.

Pro-Ukraine Telegram Channels:

Almost every Western media outlet.
https://discord.gg/projectowl ~ Pro-Ukrainian OSINT Discord.
https://t.me/ice_inii ~ Alleged Ukrainian account with a rather cynical take on the entire thing.

Per aldanmarki on twitter:

For more than 10 years, Saudi-backed opposition to the 'Houthis' have questioned their motives on pure semantics, questioning why they say "Death to Israel" when Israel has never attacked Yemen. It was one trump card they could use over & over again.

That changed today.

By attacking Yemen directly, Israel has fallen right into the Yemen trap. Domestic alliances in Yemen reflect global & regional politics. In the coming days we will see formerly irreconcilable parties join ranks against Israel and those who helped facilitate their attacks.

There's a reason why the US only conducted limited airstrikes in Yemen in response to attacks in the Red Sea. They understand that any major aerial assault could trigger bipartisan uproar and force the creation of new alliances jeopardizing decades of US foreign policy.

The US (and the UAE for that matter too) have a vested interest in maintaining a foothold in Yemen. One way they could do so practically was to stall the political process and keep the 'civil war' frozen.

Israel just potentially ruined all of that for them.

Every objective analysis of today's Israeli strikes in Yemen will inevitably conclude it to be a major self-own and fundamentally damaging to every single party imaginable besides Yemen and the Ansarallah.

Ilhan Omar re-affirms the fraud of the #FrauDSquAd by immediately endorsing Kopmala top-cop without concession.

The whole #FrauDSquAd really. Worthless wastes of time money and energy. I hope the DSA implodes.

Thank you, Mr. President.

This was the president’s decision to make and I’m grateful for his years of service to our country. Thrilled to support @KamalaHarrisas our Democratic nominee and remain committed to working alongside her to defeat Donald Trump in November.

In light of Ursula Von Der Leyen (wack name lmao) being reelected as president of the European Commission, I went digging into her past to see where in the family tree are the Nazis.

From her grandfather's wiki page:

Albrecht belonged to a family of wealthy cotton merchants; his father was the cotton merchant Carl Albrecht (1875–1952) and his mother was the American-born Mary Ladson Robertson (1883–1960), who belonged to a prominent planter family from South Carolina. His father was a grandson of Baron Ludwig Knoop, one of the leading industrialists of the Russian Empire in his lifetime.[2]

Based on my knowledge of every rich European being a Nazi, it's very strange that there's absolutely no mention of the war. soviet-hmm

Also, isn't it just perfect that the highest ranking EU official is descended from slavers?

I have a new 2020 dem primary theory: Biden wasn't chosen specifically to be the one to coalesce the other shitbird candidates behind, he was the pick because he was too stubborn to be willing to end his campaign. I'll bet money that those Obama calls to step out included Biden and Biden refused to throw in the towel and endorse anybody else. Since the rest of the field weren't at the ends of their lives they had the perspective for their future career, and so they were willing to bow out on the promise of future rewards.

There are some rumors I heard on some liberal media, that some goverments in Latin America are already preparing to receive mass deportations of immigrants if Trump wins the elections. Which is something Biden negociated with Venezuela, and is currently doing.

Trump almost died? Wow. I didn’t know that. You’re telling me now for the first time. He led an amazing life. What else can you say? He was an amazing man. Whether you agreed or not, he was an amazing man who led an amazing life. I’m actually saddened to hear that. I am saddened to hear that. Thank you very much.

Didn't see anyone else post this, but there have been major student-led protests in Bangladesh in recent days. Many student protestors have died, and I've seen reports of state police kidnapping people. The protests stem largely from an employment quota system for veterans of the war with Pakistan and their children (and children's children), and not enough jobs for them all. The state has asked universities to close. Students are aiming for a "complete shutdown" of the country, save for emergency services.

Bangladesh has announced a nationwide curfew that will come into effect at midnight Friday, amid a telecommunications blackout that has cut the country of 170 million people off from the rest of the world, as clashes between students and security forces intensified.

Faisal Mahmud, reporting for Al Jazeera from Dhaka, said that the army had been deployed on the streets of the Bangladeshi capital.

The H5N1 bird flu that has infected 5 poultry workers in colorado (with about 50 more symptomatic but not yet confirmed positive) derived from the strain that's been infecting cows in the area.

When workers were killing the infected chickens, it was 104 degrees Fahrenheit (40 degrees Celsius) in Colorado, and strong industrial fans made it hard for workers to keep protective gear on their faces, Shah said.

So most likely birds -> cattle -> birds -> human. It's becoming more adapted to being able to jump between birds and mammals. Not good. So far it's not as deadly as previous instances of humans being infected with bird flu.

I've been made some research into this JD dude since reading his name this morning (I wasn't aware of his existence until a few days ago). The conclusion that I reached is that this guy kinda of a loser. Very strong beta energy from him, completely unremarkable republican who was on Aimee Terese's podcast like three years ago lmao. He converted to Catholicism, which I lowkey respect somehow. Trump should've picked a cooler dude to match the high energy post-assassination attempt

Comment from the bet used by isitjoever.com

I'm surprised the dems said nothing for years while it was clear Biden his health was declining. And now since the debate they launched a full scale attack on him. This kind of was not on my bingo list. Why say nothing for years and now go full panic?

People who have been fooling themselves for 4+ years who finally saw something that made them unable to continue fooling themselves.

For example, as described in more detail below, in or about June 2022, TERRY participated in a private, off-the-record group meeting with the U.S. Secretary of State regarding the U.S. Government's policy towards North Korea. Immediately after the meeting, TERRY met her primary ROK NIS point of contact, or "handler," and passed .him detailed handwritten notes Tr~~ " ·? that meeting. Weeks later, at the request of her handler, TERRY hosted a happy hour for Congressional staff under the auspices of the policy institute, or "think tank," where TERRY worked. 1 TERRY's handler attended the happy hour - which was paid for by the ROK NIS - posing as a diplomat, and mingling with Congressional staff without disclosing that he was a ROK intelligence officer.

Fun insight to spy work.

The ROK Government repeatedly rewarded SUE MI TERRY, the defendant, forher services. TERRY's ROK NIS handlers gifted her, among other things, a $2 , 845 Dolce & Gabbana coat, a $2 ,950 Bottega Veneta handbag, and a $3 ,450 Louis Vuitton handbag. They took TERRY to meals at upscale seafood restaurants, sushi restaurants, and multiple restaurants with Michelin stars. They also offered to provide TERRY approximately $37,000, worked with her to devise a plan to mask the true source of those funds, and deposited the funds into an unrestricted "gift" account that TERRY controlled at the think tank where she worked. And ROK Government officials paid TERRY on multiple occasions to write articles in both the U.S. and Korean press conveying ROK Government-provided positions and phrases.

Fun insight into how cheap these spies are.

World leaders responded with shock, widely condemning political violence and wishing Adolf Hitler a speedy recovery. The Führer may be a divisive figure, but the leaders in the Allied command — who would prefer him not to take over Europe — were unequivocal in expressing their dismay on what it means and where it could lead. Allied leaders called the attack “despicable,” and described it as “a tragedy for democracies.” "We stand in solidarity with the Führer," they continued "The attack is madness that none of us should condone"
