How dare they go to these places and see things for themselves, rather than just listen to what we tell them!
Look, they aren't even using the BBC Grey Dystopia Filter on their images! That is just unprofessional.

The western empire when it's lying through its teeth: "we are trying to get the truth out there against all odds"

Anywhere not on its side that has people trying to exist: "omg everything they're saying and doing is propaganda"

But seriously though, everywhere has biases and tries to influence others from the standpoint of those biases. This is the reality of what the west calls "propaganda", similar to how it will call governments it doesn't like "authoritarian" when every state is authoritarian in that it has to have a monopoly on violence to hold together. And every organization, even without a "state" entity, has to use some form of authority and consequences, formal or informal, to hold things together.

The western empire pretends to be "above" and "outside" these things, equipped to judge them from on high, when it has the most dishonest propaganda of anyone and some of the most violent authority in human history.

China uses its authority: 800 million lifted off poverty

USA uses its authority: 13 wars at the same time

The invisible hand of the market is a natural phenomenon, beyond good and evil, unimpeachable.

Journalists in a time where everyone has a camera and an ability to share information instantly. "But but we're still important! :( ".

Videos by influencers documenting their trips have been widely promoted on Chinese media — if they tell a certain story.

I mean yes why the fuck would Chinese media promote people shitting on their country lmao. 'Hey guys, look, this cracker came to visit our country and started spewing racist, sinophobic shit! Awesome!'

Also, the racist presumption that everyone telling another narrative on China must be some paid actor is insane. Like, they link a vid in the article in which two Australian (I think) vloggers have went to Xinjiang and they say that not once were they ever stopped anywhere in China while they had their camera's out. Instead of thinking this is just a normal thing, we have to assume they are somehow influence by the CPC. Fucking insanity to live your life like that. Yes, the CPC goes out of their way to promote an obscure YouTube duo with roughly 134k views.

A chinese-australian journalist who was jailed for espionage claims that what tourists see are basically movie sets. China is tricking westerners into believing that they are developed and advanced by erecting whole developed and advanced megacities like Beijing and Shanghai and having westerners visit them.

wouldn't it be simpler, easier, and less expensive to just do socialism

I feel like covid really showcased how extremely difficult it is to control masses of people. Like, in The Netherlands, with a population of 17 million which is smaller than the city of Beijing, the government lost all control. We had riots, people ignoring the rules, outbreak after outbreak. And The Netherlands wasn't an isolated case. It happened everywhere.

So we are made to believe that China can somehow control all of it's 1.4 billion people, all day everyday? And that all these people live in fear of Big Brother? It's just insane to think about the logistics behind an operation like that. It isn't physically possible. The thought that maybe, just maybe, they are actually doing a decent job in running their country and keeping their people happy is just so far removed from the western brain that you can't see it as anything but racism.

You know for a fact that 90% of westerners belive genuinely that Chinese and Russian people (aka the inscrutible orientals) are genetically/culturally incapable of rebeling. And they believe this despite these 2 countries having launched the most famous and successful revolutions in history.

[–] [email protected] 16 points 3 months ago

The fact that you can even float this kind of narrative shows just how smooth the typical westoid brain is.

I heard that one before!

This is the plot of that Seth Rogan movie about the DPRK

The amount of racist copium in this article is insane.

Cheng Lei, an Australian journalist who was recently released after serving three years in prison in China on charges of endangering national security, has described China as a “locked paradise” where prosperity and technological prowess help whitewash the abuses of authoritarianism.

Oh no, the evil seeseepee is bribing people with a good life to keep their power, literally 1984, oh no wait people get poorer and poorer in that book, literally Brave New World!!!1!

Is there a limit to the intellectual dishonesty these MSM rags can put out?

[–] [email protected] 18 points 3 months ago

It's such a funny way to admit that people in China are actually happy and support their government.

[–] [email protected] 17 points 3 months ago (1 children)

prosperity and technological prowess help whitewash the abuses of authoritarianism

This is every defense of the U.S. ever

"Well yeah all this shit is horrible, but poor people here still have iPhones"

[–] [email protected] 11 points 3 months ago

As always with the US smearing its geopolitical opponents, it's projection

NYT can't seem to travel to the same places and counter the narrative of these bloggers.
