She’s fucking with his fragile ego. It’s gonna drive him to ever more erratic behavior. Shit’s gonna get even more weird.

Shit like this is another Harris win, IMO. She knows how to fight.

The best way to beat a fascist is to make fun of them. Biden droning on about the threat of Trump plays into his hands - it makes him look strong and scary. The way to get at him is making him look small and silly.

Kamala's campaign seem to have the right idea so far. Let's hope she's well-coached for the debate, because it's going to be hugely important.

I'm sure there are people who have said it before, but Lindsey Ellis did a great essay on mel Brooks, and the whole point of his comedy being "dude... People marching in synchro is just goofy". The point being how damn fragile a facade is when there's nothing behind it, and how much these kind of "strong men" depend on it.

The whole "weird" thing was the perfect shot. The reason it works is because it's also true "no man, you're not to tough for me, you're just... Fucking weird..."

Oh I very much disagree, but my way is far more direct.

[–] [email protected] 27 points 1 month ago

Mockery in the media where they're not in brick range, both are important

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 month ago

Maybe fascism on a macro scale then? A fascist on the micro scale, well, your approach may be great.

It worked when Superman made fun of the KKK, and it works today.

So Trump is confirmed Pennywise then? Lol

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 month ago

He's certainly a clown.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 month ago

Tbf it's not very hard to wind up a narcissist like Trump. His ego is vast. And very brittle.

[–] [email protected] 128 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

This seems kinda stupid... but it's a great strategy. Trump actually pays attention to this kinda stuff and will make a stink over it.

It reminds me of the Lincoln Project's "audience of one" strategy, where their ads were basically just meant to be viewed by Trump on cable news.

[–] [email protected] 62 points 1 month ago (2 children)

His followers also respond to it. It demoralizes them from voting.

[–] [email protected] 14 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

They want to feel like the underdogs but they don't want to be seen as weak so this doesn't hurt one bit

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

So does a Klan rally across town.

[–] [email protected] 60 points 1 month ago

That is how you make him mad and throw him off balance. Hit him at every ego point. I’ll bet when she goes for these weaknesses it will make him look weak even to his base. That will demoralize them and keep some home on Election Day.

[–] [email protected] 40 points 1 month ago (1 children)

The real trick is going to be when his campaign starts AI manipulating photos and videos to make his crowds look bigger, and how they will likely do it badly, and the mockery that will follow.

Of course, he'll just deny it and his followers will accept his denial, but it's business as usual at this point.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 month ago

After all the money spent on legal fees they can probably only afford to have Trump sharpie in some stick figures.

[–] [email protected] 35 points 1 month ago

I so want an “I did that!” Sticker!!! Several of us Cat Ladies for Kamala on Facebook RSVP’ed from afar. 😈

[–] [email protected] 13 points 1 month ago (4 children)

At least if the Twitter comments are to believed that video was from 1.5hr before the Trump rally. I'm sure it annoys him the same as if it were real, but this isn't beneficial to ensuring Democrats realize the urgency to get out and vote in November.

[–] [email protected] 14 points 1 month ago

I think the latest Harris rally was packed multiple hours before it started so that may be the angle they're going for.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 month ago

If Trump is gonna make bullshit claims like he had a bigger crowd than MLK I don't care if she takes a few creative liberties in her ads.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 month ago

It's apples to oranges honestly. Unless they're both at the same venue in a particularly mixed state, he could be further out the fringe and she could have been more in a city center, as each of their bases demographics are apt to be.

From what I saw of the two rallies he is straining to fill the venues whereas she is training to find seating for people.

But it doesn't really mean anything until they're filling the mall in DC.

That said I hope she keeps it up. It's been a long time since the left has had somebody in that's willing to play the game and not just lose on dignity.

[–] [email protected] -1 points 1 month ago

Woah woah woah. When did we decide to stop using the grammatical abomination "get out the vote"? Is this another benefit that the Harris campaign has done? Winning the pedant vote!

[–] [email protected] 13 points 1 month ago (2 children)

The real question is - do they let him see these commercials? I can easily imagine a team of people whose only job is to shield him from media coverage and things like this 24/7.

[–] [email protected] 27 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Do you really think Trump would obey these people? Have you seen his Twitter/truth social feed? They can’t limit the social media he posts let alone the one he sees

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

Some parents give their kids a phone or tablet on a car ride just to shut them up. I imagine the secret service have a similar relationship with Donnie.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 month ago

It’s a TV remote though. He’s too old for iPads and tablets. Except when tweeting covefe from the shitter.

Didn’t he have a TV installed in the Oval Office bathroom though?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 month ago

I suspect they very much can influence/curate what he sees, but maybe not to the extent I was imagining.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 month ago (2 children)

He watches TV. George Conway has been doing an experiment. He's been micro targeting ads to micro target Trump specifically to get a reaction.

They bought ad time on fox and things like the golf channel for the region around Mar a Lago. And as soon as the ads played Trump started rage posting on social media.

See https://youtu.be/oTDqBO0yGPQ for an example.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 month ago

The ad they put together was fantastic!

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 month ago

That should be entertaining, I will check it out. Thanks!

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 month ago

She's wearing a TAN SUIT too! That's gotta sting.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 month ago

Truly hilarious.
