Official Title of this Community: Ethnic Minorities and People of Color

Why is the title different?

We like to have fun here.

What is this place? A safe space for underrepresented peoples and peoples of color to talk, chill, and vibe.

What are the basic rules of the community?

  1. Follow Lemmy TOS and Community Guidelines. Non negotiable. This is the bedrock and mods will make decisions with this always in mind.

  2. This community is for ethnic minorities and people of color. This is a safe space where such people can freely discuss their struggles, insight, and thoughts without fear. If you are not, we respectfully ask you do not post or comment here. A future community will be established to allow for racial discussions with a mixed userbase. However, remember, comments here must still respect Lemmy TOS and Community Guidelines.

  3. Irony Racism is still racism. Racism is bad m'kay? We will treat irony racism and bad faith racist satire as racism. Will wield the ban hammer accordingly.

  4. No sectarianism: This is an identity channel not a channel for you all to complain about why XYZ isn't the "one true leftism". Take that to another place.

  5. Stupidpol is not allowed. Stupidpol is class reductionist. We are an identity community. Thinking like stupidpol ignores the struggles of the oppressed, their voices, and their need for unique support. Nothing says oppression more than someone saying that the identity you have is "not real" and that if you only thought like them you'd see what your "real" identity is. Mods reserve the right to ban users and content who promote stupidpol, stupidpol memes, and other class reductionist thinking.

FAQ

I don't look XYZ and/or sometimes I can pass as white so I don't know if I can post here. Can I?

What can I post?

Remember, EM POC only!

One year of Palestinian resistance... hamas-red-triangle hamas-red-triangle hamas-red-triangle hamas-red-triangle

I want liberation for all of the marginalized who still remain chained up by their oppressors.

That aside, of course, I'm hoping for some happy EM POC vibes this week!

I'm trying this new approach to my issues called the "thug that shit out" approach. Let's see how it goes!

Today’s been a good day. I say this with the wholehearted knowledge that my life will be very different and yet all too familiar at the same time.

Finally had a proper conversation with my parents since I was alive.

No more hiding. No more “negative peace”.

I told them how I felt. How they treated me throughout my childhood and teenager years. The religious trauma. The corporal punishments.

My dad’s a tougher nut to crack but I think in the end he understood and respected my feelings. It feels like a whole chapter of my life just closed in an instant. Just from one talk.

I know that may be the optimist in me speaking but I think I can finally slowly move away from the past and look forward to the future.

I can finally be at peace knowing that my relationship with the family is finally moving to something I can be happy with.

13 year old me would have not imagined this day whatsoever.

My friend joked that this isn’t how “normal” Asian parents would have reacted. Well I wouldn’t know, my experience is that everyone’s parents are different. We won’t know until we try.

I guess I did live up to my childhood name after all - “the destroyer”. To ashes the trauma burns, and in the soot a new tree sprouts.

Funny that this had to take place on October 7. I guess I can say many good things have happened on this date.

cuddle kudos to you, tovarshi! That must have taken a lot of courage, coming out to your parents.

the hurricane once again shows no body gives a shit about us, a few hundred Africans die in a flood and the most you'd get is a mention in a fast news segment, The U.S. gets hit a hurricane now suddely all international news are reporting on it

Yep, another day in the western hegemony...

On average, Americans commit three felonies per day (mostly unknowingly). If cops want to arrest you, they will find something to arrest you over. Whites think they're perfect, law-abiding citizens, but they're not. The law is selectively un-enforced towards them.

Hell, they illegally use drugs more often than non-whites. But non-whites are arrested and convicted more often by several orders of magnitude for drug offenses.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Whypipo don't understand that arrest and charges mean different things too

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Factos. So many saw the DNA evidence of breh that was executed wrongly recently and they still pulled the wool over their eyes

I think it's really sad there are still BIPOC in America and "The WEST™©®" as a whole that don't see what's happening in Palestine as nothing but a more modern and extreme version of what happened to us. To me it just shows are a real lack of historical understanding. It just bums me out that there still BIPOC who buy into idea they will get into :"The club" if they just parrot what white liberals tell them.

One of the few true bars Michael Render ever spit, even if they make seven figures, they still what? They'll learn. One way or another, the crackers will strip them of their illusions; because the crackers can't help but lose track of their masks these days.

Hope you all have a good week. My partner got sick... really hope its not covid.

seeing some absolutely braindead chronically online discussion even on hexbear reminds me whiteness always permeates through no matter what. Even poc are not immune to it these days

I'll hold grace for them, specifically because every morning for us has to involve killing the white man in our heads as a matter of morning routine. Feet on the floor, toothbrush in mouth, kill the white man in your head, put product in your hair. Some days, we slip. Shit, some days I slip. It matters more how quick you get back on the horse.

I feel like I'm a about to enter the comeback of a lifetime. Things around me feel less overwhelming. The HR at the transit agency said welcome to the family and it's pretty validating- esp when everyone here really does treat each other like family. I'm gonna love this place and I'll probably drive buses for the agency for the rest of my working years.

Y'all seen these European Comic Slop crackers running defense for genociders lately? Just another week where lemm.ee proves it deserves nothing but nuclear fire ig

[–] [email protected] 13 points 1 month ago

No wonder there is a loneliness epidermic. Yeah there are several reasons but one that sticks out is simply..... A lot of these mfs ain't shit. Who the hell wants to put up with that?

So a couple unknown hexbears pissed them off going in on the settler project, so they ban these unknown bears and then make a super passive-aggressive 'ADMINISTRATION NOTE' post where they do the basic lemm.ee polemic against hexbear posters, positioning themselves as poor put-upon crackers by the anti-genocide poster horde while they do so. I pull up, and at the comment in this post that the mod of that shithole comm "supports Jewish people and Pales-people both" (don't laugh!), I'm out here like "yeah fuck y'all twice for both-sidesing a settler-colonial genocide btw, death to your society", they try and go in on me for being a 'genocide enthusiast' because it's 'against the right people' which I mean. If it's wrong to pray for the downfall of the West, both Amerikan and European alike, then I don't wanna be right-- but then they lock the post in order to have that last word.

Two days later, the post unlocks; and I come back to it like "what makes you think I will ever care about the life of a settler y'all are my opps" and that's about where all my posts got removed, I got banned, and they kept talking shit like the poor put-upon crackers they are. Last I knew, another brave poster went in there to spit on their western collaborator philosophies and caught themselves a ban for it too; so basically you're not welcome in their comm if you're not full-throated down for israeli war crimes

Damn, that's terrible. I just checked the Note post and, yeah, it's shitty. It's a shame, I love the aesthetics of their posts. There aren't too many art communities we can subscribe to so I hope we don't defederate but definitely shitty politics. Thanks for the explanation!

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Alternatively, maybe defederating might be the impetus for us creating the art spaces we want to see?

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Maybe, I mean we already have an art community but other than the beautiful posts by @[email protected] I don't see too much going on.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 month ago

Good point, I'll try to contribute later :o

Obama admin fought to lower the minimum wage in Haiti. Remember this along with others the next time he tries to lecture black Americans with the "yo y'all " accent. https://www.businessinsider.com/wikileaks-haiti-minimum-wage-the-nation-2011-6?r=US&IR=T

hi, i was with friends (not mine, friends of a friend) playing dnd and it was uncomfortable with the n*zi references.

i get it's typical freeze-gamer stuff, but knowing the people are largely of german heritage and transphobic/misogynistic then having their in-game team called the 'SS' is whack.

it really was not funny and i had no clue how to even express my distaste. i stopped playing with them, they kept making n*zi references it was disturbing.

i'd wanna express my thoughts some of the time but yeah i sorta felt ashamed for some reason :/

My town gets all the weirdest expats. There’s this blond Lithuanian woman who seemingly has a fetish for buff brown men, because she’s always seen fooling around with them.

Anyway, today she was wearing a hoodie and baggy pants. Somebody asked her why she was wearing that in 21 (70F) degree weather and she responded, “because I’m a n-word” with the hard R in full English.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 month ago

That's...uh...hmm. Maybe just drag her off to the bathroom and wash her mouth out with soap.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 month ago

Is this what they mean, when they told some USian immigration workers

Be patient with {Slavic, specifically Ukrainian} migrants; they might call you the n-word

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 month ago (2 children)

why does this read like a horrible fanfic

today is the final day of navratri!! every year i go to the mandir to do garba but this year i was sick and now i have work so i haven't been able to go, but i get to go today. im so excited

when i think about my indian-ness or hindu-ness, this is the only festival i really think of since its the only one i actively participate in where i feel like i belong. also its still hard trying to describe what garba is to white people lol

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

Congrats, Aen,

You finally get to connect with your heritage!

A little noteyou know, it's funny, there's like 1 billion of Hindus in this world, yet they're not as vocal of their beliefs, compared to Christians or Muslims, who make a similar population...

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 month ago (1 children)

yay!! tbh i feel like i squandered all the opportunities i was given when i was a teenager to connect with my heritage more, and now its a lot harder to do it. like i had the opportunity to learn gujarati but i mostly messed around in class and now i regret it

alsoi think hinduism is less of a monolith which makes it harder to be vocal about it, i suppose. and when they are vocal, it's in india and very related to islamophobia. at least in the uk where i live, hindus are either indifferent about preaching about their religion, but when they are super religious, they channel that preachy energy towards islamophobia

Heh, a lot of migrants like me and you do... thankfully, I've began to pick up more on my native tongue, from my parents, but as for connection to my nation, I don't feel it nor do I find it much interesting...

(hint: it's the other nation infamous for codeswitching between English and the national language)

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 month ago (1 children)

infamous but i have no idea what it could be... philippines? that's my best guess
