Théophile Ferré was a leader of the Paris Commune who was executed by the French government on this day in 1871. Ferré personally authorized the execution of the archbishop of Paris and was the first of 25 Communards to be executed.

Little is known about Ferré's early life, before his participation in the Paris Commune. After Paris was seized by revolutionaries in March 1871, Ferré served on the Commune's Committee of Public Safety, a body given extensive powers to hunt down enemies of the Commune.

On April 5th, the Commune passed a decree that authorized the arrest of any person thought to be loyal to the French government in Versailles, to be held as hostages. Prominent figures arrested included a Catholic priest Georges Darboy and the archbishop of Paris. The Commune hoped to exchange their hostages for Louis-Auguste Blanqui, a revolutionary and honorary President of the Commune, imprisoned by the state.

Following the events of the "Bloody Week", in which the French government summarily executed many suspected Communards, Ferré authorized the execution of several hostages, including Darboy and the archbishop.

After the resistance of the Commune collapsed, Ferré was captured by the army, tried by a military court, and sentenced to death. On November 28th, 1871, he was shot at Satory, an army camp southwest of Versailles. He was the first of twenty-five Communards to be executed for their role in the Paris Commune.

My bank decided to do overnight .maintenance and my debit card doesn't work. They also lock the nearest ATM at 9 so homeless people can't sleep somewhere warm. I've got more money than normal in the bank and my card gets fucking declined just trying to buy a couple after work beers. And tonight we dealt with a table of 22 fifteen year old having a birthday party

[–] [email protected] 5 points 3 days ago

Big shout out to my local brewery in the same building as my work. They gave me a couple dented beers after the declinations. I bring em pizzas when I stop in after work so they're getting the equivalent of our dented cans (I box up still usable bits of pizzas that get burned or end up with a hole or are just wrong etc)

"Communism doesn't work. What we need is..." goes on to describe communism. Every fucking time.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 4 days ago

Bonus round of "The problem with the world today is..." goes onto give Marx's critiques of capitalism and it's effects on society.

Communism doesn’t work. What we need is a Federal Marxist–Leninist one-party socialist republic.

my parents have a tv above the fireplace and I don't fucking know how it isn't immediate obvious that LOOKING UPWARD AT A TV SUCKS

[–] [email protected] 6 points 3 days ago

Not to mention roasting a TV is not good for it.

In the hexbear moderation system, the people are represented by two separate yet equally important groups: the volcel police who bonk creeps, and the mods who ban the offenders. These are their stories.

I don't really like anything about my day-to-day job, but it has an above average pension arrangement and above average vacation days, so the only way I'm leaving is if Germany's economy somehow recovers (the country is evil, but the vacation and pension are nice).

My 30s are my only care about vacation and pension era.

after Michigan won against OSU a fight started between the teams and the Ohio cops pepper sprayed the Michigan players and guarded the Ohio State players. Classic cop behavior. ACAB

huh just realized that while alcohol is my More Problematic addiction i'm definitely more physically dependent on caffeine. i've taken week-ish breaks from alcohol with no withdrawals, whereas days where i forget my morning caffeine i'm immediately hit with some gnarly physical symptoms.

I always re-download Reddit out of curiosity then always rage delete after seeing a liberal circlejerk denouncing “pointless” protestors

This time it was a comment that said “I’ve never seen a more useless protest in my life. Why do this on Black Friday”

That podjon interview would’ve been vastly improved if instead Hasan pulled out a gun and unloaded it’s contents into the Podjon.

Sorry but seeing a Francophone gen alpha ask whether other people think Assad looks like skibidi toilet is exactly what makes the internet beautiful.

My nice headphones crapped out. I spent more money hoping to get something good so i'd never have to touch logitech again but it has these fragile "planar magnetic drivers" that are i guess super fragile sheets of metal foil and can be destroyed by normal handling. They sound really nice and they're very comfy but the build quality is spotty and they"re fragile on top of that and they broke and it's just like shit I was hoping they'd last.

I can't totally cope with the idea of "disposable" for anything that isn't actually consumable. In my head things should last forever if you keep them oiled and check them for rust regularly. It's happening to my phone, too. Modern apps are chewing up all it's ram and more and more programs are being deprecated. There's nothing wrong with it except planned obsolesence and sloppy, resource hogging programming stuffed with anti-features.

At least the knife i got as a present twenty years ago remains sharp, sturdy, and rust free.

This whole entropy thing is bogus.

Whenever YouTube sword guys do a klingon Bat'leth video they seem under the impression that it's a sword and should be treated as such and compared to one. That's the fucking Mek'leth you absolute dunces. They usually spar against a guy with a sword too. Yknow what the Bat'leth would probably be fantastic against? A shield and spear guy. Curved blade can go over a shield and the 3 bigass holes for gripping could also be used to wrench a spear from an opponents hands. Try sparring that out instead. They are Pt'ahk and without honor.

I listened to the pod jons episode where one of the jons (apparently one of them is not actually a jon???) interviewed the Kamala Harris campaign. I have no love for them or their insiders so I'm not finding it cringe beyond the regular cringe neoliberals all exude, but the pod jon fans fucking hate these people with the seething hatred of a thousand suns lol.

The campaign staffers literally learned nothing and will change nothing and foreshadowed that no lessons were learned and they will not change what they're doing. And also it's your fault as an American voter for that

I know I'm being a bit of a lib treathog here, but I'm not looking forward to Trump's tariffs. All I hear from people is that I owe capitalism my loyalty but every time I want to try to make the most of living under capitalism, the government will betray its own free market, meritocratic principles.

I hope we can use this as a point of radicalization: Capitalism and 'the free market' are simply not synonymous.

find a new armorsmithing channel

it's good and informative, but there are just a couple little things that set off my hitler-detector

things so minor I wonder if I'm not reading too much into it, just the guy's general vibe and appearance (skinny long haired white dude with beard, definitely medeivalist type), along with his choice to only make recreations of historical medieval armor or mandalorian stuff. Seems a little normalcore for such a skillset, but whatever.

Another time i see him in a shirt with a stylized nordic cross. Okay, deep orange to red flag, but maybe he's just one of those classic power metal dumbguys we all love.

see a youtube post from his channel

"Today we commemorate the victims of the Holdomor..."

Oh hitler-detector, I should never have doubted you.

I get to the train station.

It's 8:29. Station signboard says next train at 8:59.

I wait ten minutes.

It's 8:39. Station signboard says next train at 9:09.

It's 0°C outside and the station in in a highway median with no shelter.

The train actually showed up at 9:17.
