I've been sorta addicted to Hexbear and want to cut down but idk if I can find a decent alternative to the news updates I get here. What can I do?

you don't need news updates the-more-you-know

i mean you can't influence 99% shit you read in big news, aside from local stuff and groups so touch-grass

Also, schedule out your Hexbear usage. This site doesn't move that fast. I generally check in the mornings and evenings.

Agreed somewhat. I'd rather not know all the BS that's happening. It's less about influencing and more about staying informed in case smth like the IDF getting cooked happens inshallah-script. Big events and leftist perspective on them.

If you're looking for written stuff, this is some of what's in my RSS feed:
https://www.nakedcapitalism.com/ - Geopolitics and economics
https://geopoliticaleconomy.com/ - Geopolitics
https://www.indianpunchline.com/ - Geopolitical blog written by a former Indian diplomat
https://www.mintpressnews.com/ - US and geopolitics
https://www.erininthemorning.com/ - US anti-trans legislation tracking
https://electronicintifada.net/ - Palestine news

If you want videos that can easily just be listened to like a podcast:
https://www.youtube.com/democracynow - Quick headlines of world events every day and usually some interesting interviews. They can be hit or miss on foreign policy stuff sometimes.
https://www.youtube.com/@GeopoliticalEconomyReport - ~~Multipolarista's~~ Geopolitical Economy Report's channel. Ben Norton will usually go over the articles he writes in video form. They also host Geopolitical Economy Hour, which is a very interesting show with Radhika Desai and Michael Hudson and the occasional guest. The playlist is here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLDAi0NdlN8hMl9DkPLikDDGccibhYHnDP
https://www.youtube.com/@AlexMercouris - The good half of The Duran, mainly covers the ongoing conflicts in Ukraine and West Asia. As soon as he starts talking about social issues though, just tune him out. Thankfully it doesn't happen often. He talks very slowly though, I would suggest 1.5x speed at least.
https://www.youtube.com/@TheDuran - Geopolitics. Mainly a channel for the occasional interesting interview/discussion, but their main videos are just shorter/more focused analysis from Mercouris. His cohost isn't worth paying that much attention to in my opinion.
https://www.youtube.com/@TheElectronicIntifada - Palestine news

Democracy Now is good for general US focused coverage, Novara Media is good for general UK coverage

its a despair machine, much moreso than here. And idk if its really that good on some topics

Mentioned by @[email protected] but https://www.nakedcapitalism.com/ is great. They even have RSS if you have an RSS reader you use

Telesur English

I'm linking to their US tag, because I like it, and it's somewhat buried on their website. The US is not their core area of coverage, so it does a nice job of filtering out coverage the latest media circus. Their reporting is even-handed, and their biggest recurring bias is elevating the importance of US-South American trade deals (which, like, yeah, understandable).

Their world coverage is also good. Doesn't have the same layer-of-removal that the US coverage does though.
