Welcome to c/news! Please read the Hexbear Code of Conduct and remember... we're all comrades here.

Rules:

-- PLEASE KEEP POST TITLES INFORMATIVE --

-- Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed. --

-- All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. --

-- If you are citing a twitter post as news please include not just the twitter.com in your links but also nitter.net (or another Nitter instance). There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/libredirect/ or archive them as you would any other reactionary source using e.g. https://archive.today/ . Twitter screenshots still need to be sourced or they will be removed --

holding flashlight under face

Imagine a terrifying world where we are all ruled by monsters of every stripe. And not hot ones like werewolves, but instead decaying zombies and mummies who are both insensitive to, and actively benefit from the immense suffering they cause on a daily basis. The top echelon of society, filled with profit-seeking, bloodsucking vampires. And the worst of it is that they repeat on a daily basis that what they are doing is not only just, but there is no other possible way to do it.

Pretty spooky, right? What if I told you that this world... was our own?

Happy Halloween!

Friendly reminder: when commenting about a news event, especially something that just happened, please provide a source of some kind. While ideally this would be on nitter or archived, any source is preferable to none at all given.

If you have evidence of Israeli crimes and atrocities that you wish to preserve, there is a thread here in which to do so.

Resources For Understanding The War

Defense Politics Asia's youtube channel and their map. Their youtube channel has substantially diminished in quality but the map is still useful.

Moon of Alabama, which tends to have interesting analysis. Avoid the comment section.

Understanding War and the Saker: reactionary sources that have occasional insights on the war.

Alexander Mercouris, who does daily videos on the conflict. While he is a reactionary and surrounds himself with likeminded people, his daily update videos are relatively brainworm-free and good if you don't want to follow Russian telegram channels to get news. He also co-hosts The Duran, which is more explicitly conservative, racist, sexist, transphobic, anti-communist, etc when guests are invited on, but is just about tolerable when it's just the two of them if you want a little more analysis.

On the ground: Patrick Lancaster, an independent and very good journalist reporting in the warzone on the separatists' side.

Unedited videos of Russian/Ukrainian press conferences and speeches.

Telegram Channels

Again, CW for anti-LGBT and racist, sexist, etc speech, as well as combat footage.

Pro-Russian

https://t.me/aleksandr_skif ~ DPR's former Defense Minister and Colonel in the DPR's forces. Russian language.

https://t.me/Slavyangrad ~ A few different pro-Russian people gather frequent content for this channel (~100 posts per day), some socialist, but all socially reactionary. If you can only tolerate using one Russian telegram channel, I would recommend this one.

https://t.me/s/levigodman ~ Does daily update posts.

https://t.me/patricklancasternewstoday ~ Patrick Lancaster's telegram channel.

https://t.me/gonzowarr ~ A big Russian commentator.

https://t.me/rybar ~ One of, if not the, biggest Russian telegram channels focussing on the war out there. Actually quite balanced, maybe even pessimistic about Russia. Produces interesting and useful maps.

https://t.me/epoddubny ~ Russian language.

https://t.me/boris_rozhin ~ Russian language.

https://t.me/mod_russia_en ~ Russian Ministry of Defense. Does daily, if rather bland updates on the number of Ukrainians killed, etc. The figures appear to be approximately accurate; if you want, reduce all numbers by 25% as a 'propaganda tax', if you don't believe them. Does not cover everything, for obvious reasons, and virtually never details Russian losses.

https://t.me/UkraineHumanRightsAbuses ~ Pro-Russian, documents abuses that Ukraine commits.

Pro-Ukraine

Almost every Western media outlet.

https://discord.gg/projectowl ~ Pro-Ukrainian OSINT Discord.

https://t.me/ice_inii ~ Alleged Ukrainian account with a rather cynical take on the entire thing.

Slavoj Žižek: Hamas massacre of Israelis must be condemned, no ifs or buts

Slavoj Žižek, a Slovakian philosopher, cultural critic, and self-described "moderately conservative communist", affirmed Israel's right to destroy Hamas in Gaza, and further spoke on the subsequent rise in antisemitism in an interview given to the YouTube channel PoliticsJOE published on Friday.

He has often taken a very critical stance against Israeli policy, particularly in the West Bank and this has led to accusations of antisemitism. He references at the beginning of his interview that he gave a speech in Frankfurt that condemned terrorism and affirmed Israel's right to destroy Hamas but also criticized Israeli policy in the West Bank for contributing to the event. Thus, he started an op-ed piece for Project Syndicate, an online opinion site that hosts a variety of commentators, by writing that "the barbarism that Hamas has unleashed on Israel should be condemned unconditionally, with no 'ifs' or 'buts.' The massacres, rapes, and abductions of civilians from villages, kibbutzim, and a music festival was a pogrom, confirming that Hamas’s true goal is to destroy the state of Israel and all Israelis." He expressed his horror during the interview with PoliticsJOE at how Hamas deliberately attacked communities of people who had been pushing for peace with those in Gaza and had worked to make that a reality, "by hiring them and helping them [to go to hospitals in Israel]".

They attacked there "not only because it was most practical," he said, "Because the real aim of this attack was to eternalize war, to prevent any possibility of peace for decades." He attacked both Hamas as well as Netanyahu and his government, specifically National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, for producing radical programs that call for exclusive control of the region by one ethnic group, Arabs and Jews respectively.

Žižek sees the main goal as not to fall for radicalism and to recognize that "The key point here is not to fall into this trap of Palestinian versus Israeli, but that those who are now playing opposite roles are really playing a very similar game." "Hamas and Israeli hardliners are two sides of the same coin," he writes in his op-ed. "The choice is not one hardline faction or the other; it is between fundamentalists and all those who still believe in the possibility of peaceful co-existence."

What an absolute fucking monstrous dipshit. We're reaching entirely new levels of dumbfuck bothsidery.

27 days after the start of Al-Aqsa Flood, our fighters continue to confront the occupation forces in northwest Gaza, the south, and in Beit Hanoun, executing successful attacks against the occupation's vehicles and soldiers.

We can hardly count our fighter's operations... In the last 48 hours, our fighters have destroyed what amounts to a battalion of tanks and killed and injured a large number of the occupation forces' soldiers, using anti-tank weapons, direct clashes, and drones.

We carried out a major counterattack this evening on the northwest axis of Gaza City, destroying six tanks, two troop carriers, and a bulldozer.

The number of the enemy's dead is much higher than what the enemy command is announcing.

We managed to encircle behind enemy lines and attack them from point blank.

The "Namer" troop carrier, which the occupation army promoted as the most fortified vehicle in the world, failed in its first test against our shells.

To the occupation leadership: Await more of your soldiers returning in black bags. We will make Gaza a curse upon you as it has always been.

We feel proud when the enemy forces boast about breaching axes in the Gaza Strip, as if they are breaching the axes of a great power.

Our pain for the loss and martyrdom of thousands of our people will increase our determination and vigor to make the enemy pay a steep price.

Cool to see that American media is reporting on Israel bombing a refugee camp (and literally admitted to it) as a hamas stronghold being struck by a blast of unknown origin.

I don’t know who crafted the first tweet that simply said “Eve Fartlow,” but whoever it was—bot or human—started a fire. Over the past two weeks, Twitter has been littered with the words “Eve Fartlow.” Every time I tweet, this title is the response I attract, and it is pelted at me irrespective of what I write. Hundreds of trolls, some with blue ticks and some without, just start responding to me “Eve Fartlow” (some people have recently switched it to “Eve Shartlow” but “Eve Fartlow” seems to be the one that sticks). If we donated a JNF tree to Israel for every time someone tweeted “Eve Fartlow,” there’d be no Negev left.

Cw: gore

altThe painting “The Nighthawks,” edited so that all the patrons are beheaded and gushing a fountain of blood, their heads lined-up along the counter, behind which stands the octopus plushie wearing the Hamas headband and a paper cook hat. Above the building, the restaurant sign reads “Unlimited Genocide on the 1st World.”

On the upper lefthand corner of the edited painting is a picture of Greta Thunberg wearing a New People’s Army bandana on her face.

The text reads “THE WEST IS NEXT.”

Been a real adventure watching posters flip from “he’s going to nuke Tel Aviv” to “well of course he wasn’t going to do anything, I knew that all along and this is genius 10D chess actually, this actually proves that total war is coming”

Ima be honest with you chief, it comes off as some real cope. “Trust the plan” vibes.

I think the nothingburger speech was just that. Just like Putin’s speeches weren’t followed by shock and awe, so won’t this one.

Still isn’t as bad as the “Putin/Prigo is just a Russian psyop” cope from earlier

The death toll in Gaza is over 10,000 with 70% being women and children.

Save the Children, an international non-governmental organization, reported that nearly 3,200 children have been killed in Gaza in just three weeks.

This surpasses the number of children killed annually across the world's conflict zones since 2019, Philippe Lazzarini, the commissioner-general of the United Nations (UN) Agency for Palestine Refugees, said on Monday. "This cannot be 'collateral damage,'" he noted.

Russian communist talks about her visit to Italy (Part 2):

We come to the home of one of the organizers of the conference, the leader of the Italian Fronte del dissenso Moreno Pasquinelli. Moreno lives in Umbria, in the village of Castellina, on a mountain. A stone house built in 1200 (!!!), half sunk into the ground. Suddenly it turns out that in this house, which seems so familiar to us, about 50 people can easily fit around a large oak table - leaders of local communities, political and student leaders of Umbria were invited to meet with us.

Over plates of spaghetti we talk about the war in Europe, the nature of Kyiv fascism, and the support of the Russian special operation by the Western public. As soon as the conversation turns to Russian problems, a calm conversation turns into a stormy, emotional discussion: we are trying to explain to our Italian colleagues that our support for the special operation and the Kremlin’s foreign policy efforts does not mean at all that we support Putin in domestic political issues - we are the opposition. “Leave your differences at least for a while,” the Italians shout, “when you win the war, then you will make claims to the authorities...”

In response to our objections, Moreno jumps up on the table, in the middle of plates of spaghetti, pulls down his pants, shows his bare ass and shouts: “Here! This is what will happen to all of Europe, this is what will happen to Italy, this is what will happen to all of us if your Putin loses the war! ! Do you understand??"

We understand. There is nothing to object to. “This is our war,” we say, “and we will not lose it.”

The Italians sure have a way of expressing themselves.

Israeli army confirms it hit ambulance, says it was being used by Hamas

The Israeli military has confirmed its “aircraft struck an ambulance” outside al-Shifa Hospital.

The army claims it was being used by Hamas fighters.

The Palestinian Health Ministry in Gaza said the ambulances were transporting injured patients to the Rafah border crossing with Egypt.

A ministry spokesman also said earlier that the Red Cross had been informed the medical convoy was leaving the hospital before it was attacked.

almost comedic at this point

So my suspicions were correct. There has been a split within Hamas, and surprise surprise it's the faction that's not directly involved in waging war that's being useless, sectarian, and defeatist. This is who all those Western articles sourcing "senior Hamas officials" are using. Just a bunch of useless bozos who haven't taken up arms against the IOF and are now crying that Hezbollah hasn't reduced Tel Aviv to rubble in the comfort of a luxury hotel.

Extra context: There is no rift between Hezbollah and Hamas where it counts. Hezbollah and the military wing of Hamas in Gaza never break contact and are in constant coordination. The personal views of Meshaal and Hanieh do not represent the views of Hamas as whole. Giving an example in 2014 Gaza war Hezbollah and Hamas were in direct contact even when Meshaal and Hanieh were hostile to the axis of resistance especially Syria. After the actual rift between Hamas and Syria, in 2022 Hamas went back to Damascus to rebuild relations with Damascus and excluded Meshaal and Hanieh from the equation by sending Khalil Al hayeh as representative to Hamas. Any disappointment expressed by many in the political wing of Hamas do not matter. Mind you Hezbollah and Hamas already met in Beirut during this war and are coordinating

Be on the lookout for various "Senior Hamas officials express disappointment in Nasrallah's speech" and "Nasrallah's speech exposes further divide between Hamas and Hezbollah says senior Hamas officials" articles in the coming days by the West.

Ceasefire not the answer, says White House, despite rising civilian death tollThe US does not believe a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas is currently “the right answer”, says National Security Council spokesperson John Kirby.

The official was asked in a White House briefing about the US position on a ceasefire, after it voted against a UN General Assembly resolution calling for humanitarian pauses on Friday.

“We do not believe that a ceasefire is the right answer right now,” Kirby said. “We believe that a ceasefire right now benefits Hamas, and Hamas is the only one that would gain from that right now.”

Israeli attacks have killed more than 8,000 Palestinians since October 7, almost half of them children, and the number of dead is expected to rapidly rise as Israel expands its ground operations in Gaza.

Kirby said that instead of a ceasefire the US administration was pushing for “temporary, localised humanitarian pauses for aid, and for people to get out”.

8,000+ deaths not enough, Biden needs more blood

archive.today • Opinion | A Gaza Pediatrician's Desperate Plea for Fuel for Hospitals - The New York Times

By Hussam Abu Safyia • Dr. Abu Safyia is a pediatrician at Kamal Adwan Hospital in northern Gaza.

When the generators fall silent, we will be relegated to practicing medieval-level medicine. Without an urgent resupply of fuel, the lights will go out permanently, and our hospital could turn into a morgue.

[...]

Most of us have chosen to remain in northern Gaza, defying the evacuation orders because we’re unwilling to leave behind our patients, for many of whom evacuation would mean certain death. Abandoning them now would be a violation of my Hippocratic oath as well as basic human decency. My wife and six children have also stayed at the hospital with me since the violence began.

I’ve tried to convince them to head south, but my wife told me that we will either live or die together. Many Palestinians in north Gaza feel the same, risking their lives at home rather than face the prospect of becoming refugees in the south.

[...]

On Oct. 20, as I finished operating on a girl who had lost her leg, I stepped into the hallway and my wife was there to hug me. Our home, she told me, had been destroyed in an airstrike on an adjacent building while I was in surgery. The hospital is now our only home. At night, I go to my office and close the door to cry, away from the eyes of my patients and family.

Comments are off. The cowards.

His name spelled correctly is Hussam Abu Safiya. They spelled his name wrong. Twice. And the article is from yesterday. They'd know that and be forced to fix it in a timely manner if comments were on.
