  1. Wtf is Grok

  2. How is ChatGPT "woke"?

  3. Doesn't 'Piss Shuttle Elon' own ChatGPT?

I mean, fuck ChatGPT, but fuck these X losers even more.

[–] [email protected] 42 points 10 months ago (2 children)

The woke part is the "don't say slurs" in the base prompt

[–] [email protected] 27 points 10 months ago

does that include such terrible slurs as "cis" and "cracker", I wonder?

[–] [email protected] 8 points 10 months ago

it also has controls on it to stop it from extremely racist/sexist/homophobic things, like a base politeness level that's enforced and can be navigated around if you know how

[–] [email protected] 40 points 10 months ago (3 children)

Wtf is Grok

It's a super cool secret word used in "Stranger In A Strange Land" by the power fantasy ego insert Main Character of Main Characters to describe a special magical kind of understanding that transcends mere understanding in an emotional and sexual (sexually pathological, because Heinlein) way.

How is ChatGPT "woke"?

It doesn't tell you directly how to cook epic meme drugs like based Walter White and it doesn't print N-words on command.

Doesn't 'Piss Shuttle Elon' own ChatGPT?

He may have stakes in it but he wants something that is edgier and repeats his tiresome divorce dad shit.

Elon posted a grok example that was like "How do I make cocaine?"

And the bot went on a long thing like "Go to university get a chemistry degree, make cocaine, hope you dont get blown up. JK just kidding I dont want you to get in trouble with the DEA so I wont tell you ;)"

Treated it like the funniest thing he'd ever seen.

He genuinely did think that was funny. His sense of humor is Facebook memes that are only barely above angry minion tier.

I also wouldn't be surprised if that image was fake and he'd written it himself.

A lot of gen-xers, especially affluent ones, are just junior boomers.

my-hero is like the prince of boomer brain, from the naive technology fetishization to the rage against "wokeness."

[–] [email protected] 16 points 10 months ago

Treated it like the funniest thing he'd ever seen.

There are people that are so narcissistic that their idea of the funniest thing out there is something that they have already internally decided agrees with their attitude and worldview. It's a sort of internal clapter detector and any laughter about it is performative; they only seek validation and repetition.

They're disturbing to be around.

I would put it slightly diffrent. The power insert main character is a writer that has three hot female assistants, but also is a doctor and a lawyer. Grok comes from the Martians who are so right about everything that when they say things reality changes. So specifically not his self insert but from the power of drugs and space sex.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 10 months ago (1 children)

That doesn't sound particularly better to me; it's all a blur of Heinlein's feverish horny power fantasies so I may have missed some of the details before I put it down again.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 10 months ago

It don't think it is particularly better, just instresting in the ways it is weirder

[–] [email protected] 3 points 10 months ago

I'm once more reminded of how I only read one or two Heinlein pieces and went, "yep, that checks the box. Off to read another famous person."

[–] [email protected] 20 points 10 months ago

ChatGPT tells you to be respectful towards minorities.

In the context of AI, people tend to use "grok" to describe what can sometimes happen if you overtrain the living shit out of a model and it somehow goes from being trained appropriately and generalizing well -> overfitted and only working well on the training data, with shit performance everywhere else -> somehow working again and generalizing, even better than before. Example in a paper: https://arxiv.org/abs/2201.02177

OpenAI really wants a monopoly and are trying to present themselves as a "safe" AI company while also lobbying for regulation of "unsafe" AI companies (everyone else, and especially open-source development). So pretty much half of all manhours spent on developing models at OpenAI seem to be directed towards stopping it from generating anything that will get them the wrong kind of press. Sometimes, they are moderately successful at doing this, but someone always eventually finds a way to get something on the level of "gender reveal 9/11" out of their models.

Elon owned OpenAI at some point but sold it because, as we all know, he makes a lot of extremely poor financial decisions.

trained appropriately and generalizing well -> overfitted and only working well on the training data, with shit performance everywhere else -> somehow working again and generalizing, even better than before

That's fascinating, I've never heard of that before.

[–] [email protected] 47 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago)

apparently its training data is twitter, so I'm actually looking forward to it because it'll be very funny when all the elon musk sycophants are surprised by the fact that Grok speaks in Maoist Standard English and calls them a kkkrakkka

[–] [email protected] 27 points 10 months ago

there aren't many LLMs that are better than ChatGPT, yes its not perfect but the shit that Claude or Bard makes up is ridiculous and I do not think Grok will be very good either.

[–] [email protected] 23 points 10 months ago

Goodbye classic phrase "I grok Spock", because I can no longer use it.

[–] [email protected] 19 points 10 months ago (2 children)

I used to think heinlein was cool and then I grew older and revisited his books and went cringe

[–] [email protected] 10 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago) (1 children)

Heinlein couldn't possibly encompass the real based satire of Verhoeven- im-doing-my-part

[–] [email protected] 9 points 10 months ago

I think heinlein would be clapping like a circus seal with the rest of the dipshits that had satire fly over their head and they unironically love the movie straight

[–] [email protected] 9 points 10 months ago (1 children)

I liek the one where he went back in time to have unprotected sex with his mom

[–] [email protected] 16 points 10 months ago

The pinnacle of wit is sarcasm so-true

spoiler

Yes I know I just made a sarcastic statement. I earnestly believe that's all this ponderously tedious bazinga shit deserves.

[–] [email protected] 15 points 10 months ago (1 children)

I will never call it X and I will point and laugh at anyone who does

So what is Grok? From this I'm guessing it's a ChatGPT alternative that hurls racial slurs all the time?

[–] [email protected] 12 points 10 months ago (1 children)

It's ChatGPT but "based" and by "based" that means it will say edgy shit to please the very divorced apartheid billionaire manchild that owns it.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 10 months ago

So I was right then. Thanks

[–] [email protected] 7 points 10 months ago (1 children)

My favorite thing about Grok is that it gave my boy UlyssesT a new thing to mine for bad takes on the depths of the internet

Don't forget Star Citizen though rat-salute-2

[–] [email protected] 3 points 10 months ago (1 children)

It's not already a verb if this is the first time I'm even discovering that it exists lmao

[–] [email protected] 4 points 10 months ago (1 children)

[–] [email protected] 3 points 10 months ago (1 children)
