I swear I came across every other couple being exactly this when I lived in the US.

Every couple I've came across like this, the woman is just as racist but isn't explicitly about it nor does she even know she's racist herself

How could she possibly be racist, she voted for the 99% Hitler Party like at least three times!

[–] [email protected] 33 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago) (1 children)

she would have voted for Hillary (I accidentally wrote Hitler) a third time if she could

[–] [email protected] 26 points 10 months ago

I’m writing her in this year. It’s still her turn!

She has to admit though, this woke stuff has gone too far.

Salon's target demo

The woman is still 80% as racist as the man in every way that matters, and the spread narrows as they get older.

[–] [email protected] 30 points 10 months ago

Yes, but she listens to Beyonce and voted for Obama so when she goes off on a rant about the black family that moved next door it's not because she's racist!

It's because people in the US are encouraged to never talk politics and to think anyone that does is either maybe-later-kiddo or frothingfash

So you get lots of couples that share other interests and just never interrogate each other over reactionary views (assuming as the image depicts this is specifically about white couples)

[–] [email protected] 15 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Yeah, and I have to guess they have lives where one parter being a racist doesn't impact them at all.

Also you're right, Americans by and large don't investigate political ideology, even their own. It's a hobby for most people. Everyone else just goes along on standard American vibes and only figures out what they think when they have to come up with answers to questions.

The standard American ideology is "I can do and say whatever I want and I'm not gay. I'll do whatever it takes to never be mistaken as gay"

michael-laugh that's brilliant! This is the real heart of the empty head Joe Rogan fan mentality

It really is the only thought going through a lot of white guy skulls. They have no other concerns or political opinions beyond just that

[–] [email protected] 34 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago) (2 children)

this is almost all white couples. frankly the gays are only slightly less racist, sometimes worse.

Being a white couple in middle America, can confirm. Plenty of raging racist chuds, but the majority (idk, 90+%) are more of lib who doesn't realize their views are horrifically racist. From there it's a crap shoot on if they'll own it and try to improve if you call them out or if the weirdest shit you've ever heard starts coming out their mouths.

I got this guy who I see a couple times a year with his partner and we talk politics and religion. Conversations have gone from his sweaty reddit-logo r/atheist screed, next time we talk he says people don't starve in America and Musk and Joe Rogan will fix things, next convo we talk gardening and his tobacco crop. Our latest conversation: the Greeks are a dirty and lazy people who are ruining the EU. Like, he goes off with every racist trope you can think of, against the Greeks... Also he joined us at a Bernie Sanders rally and volunteered for his campaign.

We don't exactly send our best.

kombucha-disgust Musk and Joe Rogan will fix things

[–] [email protected] 32 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Knew a lesbian couple that was basically this. One was a wealthy liberal who had a weird fixation with eugenics and the other was from a small town in the South that loved finding an excuse to say slurs.

[–] [email protected] 15 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Was a hard truth for young me, learning that being queer doesn't seem to grant people any sympathy or understanding for other oppressed people, and that gays can be absolutely every bit as atrocious as the straights™ can

[–] [email protected] 9 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Same for POC from the south. Some of the worst homophobia and transphobia I've experienced came from the mouths of POC Baptists and Envangelicals :/

[–] [email protected] 35 points 10 months ago (1 children)

It's a "progressive" news outlet that was popular during the Obama years from what I remember. They've always been very lib

I was going to defend myself but then I realized that I'm just cishet, not a couple.

I'll take your word with it. I hang out with too many gays to be the judge of this.

[–] [email protected] 21 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago)

Gays are not exempt from this dynamic. Lesbians neither. Polys might be, I wouldn't know.

He drives a truck with the confederate battle flag in the rear window, despite living in Canada. She's not allowed to drive it.
