SO apparently if you add enough instant coffee to make it taste like a "strong" cup of coffee... its gonna contain way more caffiene than you expected. Didn't realize it until my hands wouldn't stop jittering.

It actually tastes pretty good but yeah. Don't be like me. Looks like I'm definitely staying up until midnight.

I was in the hospital for a few days due to a caffeine overdose because I was working myself too hard that day but was sleep-deprived.

Do you remember how much you took? There was a couple times when I was in college I felt like I had taken way way too much but never was hospitalized so I’m curious what the “limit” is.

Whatever you do, do NOT bet on any farts for the next 18 hours.

NOT MEDICAL ADVICE

it's just coffee, that's probably fine if there aren't any pre-existing conditions. Don't take a bottle or anything but a normal amount is maybe not ideal health wise but hardly dangerous to a normal person.

Drink a bunch of water, eat fiibre rich food to keep digestion and metabolism rockin and just like, do some pushups or jumping jacks to burn off energy.

Oof. That's gotta be uncomfortable. I can barely sit still right now and it has been 2 hours.

[–] [email protected] 13 points 7 months ago (1 children)

You don't have to the degree I did then.

I took a lot to get through my sleep-deprived state and to stay productive.

But it backfired spectacularly.

Worst day of my life, or so it seems.

This happened a long time ago.

I just did speed and apparently that was the safer choice.

I also railed it, and if you're gonna abuse uppers, do it through the nose. You'll see the OD coming and be able to tske measures.to just not have one or react as badly. If you've eaten something it can be a bit random how fast it absorbs how much and whatnot. You're doing less at once but getting it to the dome and processed out faster, you redose more often but it's safer to do so, overdoing it eating something means you're all in for all you swallowed which isn't as obvious at time of consumption, railing pills hurts and a fat line is at least still just like a pill

Cut into a line and snorted

Doing/being around hard drug users makes you learn a lot of terminologies. Parachuting is crushing time release pills so they're immediate releases wrapping em in a rolling paper and swallowing for example.

Yeah, I don't know any of this stuff, but thanks for explaining.

Oh, sorry, I typed that while I was scatter-brained. I meant "thanks for explaining."

I can't be bothered to ever measure out my instant coffee, so I use decaf instead. You get a robust flavour and a respectable amount of caffeine through sheer volume.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 7 months ago

I'm a decaf fan as well. I'm pretty sensitive to caffeine even though I usually have 3-4 cups of normal coffee a day. I'll switch to decaf if I get jittery at all. I had 2 cups of the strong instant stuff and was immediately uncomfortably wired. I still kinda feel it to be honest.

definitely staying up until midnight.

Imagine having a sleep schedule that doesn't involve you staying up till 2am on worknights where you get up at 7am.

I will never in my life understand what "strong" coffee is. does it just mean bitter?

[–] [email protected] 11 points 7 months ago (1 children)

This may seem extremely elitist, but having had espresso, American drip coffee, and instant before, a bad espresso is better than a good American drip, which is better than instant coffee.

I get not everyone will have the resources to procure an espresso machine but a thicker/less watery 30mL shot of espresso is very good. There's like a nutty, oily flavour and aroma that kind of blunts the bitterness of the coffee itself. It's still butter but it's somehow more pleasant?

[–] [email protected] 7 points 7 months ago* (last edited 7 months ago) (1 children)

I wish I had that same opinion, I hate bad espresso. good espresso is definitely the best, but you basically need to spend like $5k to get a good espresso setup at home. that's why I mostly just drink light roast drip coffee.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 7 months ago

Moka pots are also somewhat popular where I am, and it similarly uses pressure, and generally costs less than $40.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 7 months ago

way more coffee to liquid ratio than suggested.

Sometimes this can be achieved by making a normal pot of coffee and letting the coffee pot sit on a heat source long enough to evaporate a portion of the water but leaving the caffiene sludge behind.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 7 months ago* (last edited 7 months ago)

To a non coffee drinker - yeah pretty much. Stronger, usually more bitter flavor, but depends on the coffee. The instant coffee called for 1 teaspoon per 6 ounces... my mug is a little bigger than 6 ounces so I went with a tablespoon and a half. Not smart.

I had this problem once at an unassuming undergrad event. Never again.
