Brett Kavanaugh, the US supreme court justice, will “step up” for Donald Trump and help defeat attempts to remove the former president from the ballots in Colorado and Maine for inciting an insurrection, a Trump lawyer said.

“I think it should be a slam dunk in the supreme court,” Alina Habba told Fox News on Thursday night. “I have faith in them.

“You know, people like Kavanaugh, who the president fought for, who the president went through hell to get into place, he’ll step up. Those people will step up. Not because they’re pro-Trump but because they’re pro-law, because they’re pro-fairness. And the law on this is very clear.”

Kavenaugh was appointed by Trump, and the Trump WH protected him from an FBI investigation after the whopping 4k+ tips started rolling in.

He probably shouldnt be part of this ruling… him, the other Trump appointed peeps, and Thomas (who really should just resign,)

He also committed perjury when he lied about squirting beer up his ass. That's an objective fact about a sitting Supreme Court Justice. Brettt Kavanaugh committed perjury when he lied about squirting beer up his ass.

He also probably sexually assaulted a woman, but we don't know that with absolute certainty. We do know with absolute certainty that he squirted beer up his ass and then lied about it under oath in front of Congress while being interviewed for the job as the highest arbiter of law.

What we do know is Brock Allen Turner raped an unconscious woman behind a dumpster, was only sentenced to 6 months in prison, and was released after 3 fro good behavior. This is a huge case of white, moneyed privilege. Brock Allen Turner is a rapist and should never be allowed to hold a job in the United States.

Oh hey, are you talking about Rapist Brock Allen Turner who has been going by his middle name lately, Rapist Allen Turner?

he squirted beer up his ass and then lied about it

I mean, I'd lie about that too.

[-] [email protected] 1 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago)

I understand why he lied. It's embarrassing, but he was under oath. He swore to God and Country, under penalty of perjury, in front of Congress and the American people, in order to be considered for a position as a Supreme Court Justice, that he wasn't lying. And then he lied.

And everyone knew he was lying. That's what gets me. He committed perjury on camera and nobody called him on it. Everyone just shrugged and moved on, like it didn't matter. Because it didn't matter.

It doesn't matter if the justices are the best, most trustworthy, most honest, most qualified for the job. That's not what matters. What matters is that he will do what he is told, will rule on the cases in a predictable way, and that he will live a very long life. That's why he's sitting on the highest court in the country. Because he's a stooge. He'll lie when it's convenient, he'll hide the truth when it's politically expedient, he'll stretch credibility to get what he wants, and he'll do it for the people paying him, too.

The court is a fraud, and there is no justice.

Justice Kavanaugh hasn't forgotten all those gambling debts that magically disappeared after he perjured himself through his confirmation hearing.

Sounds like a not-so-subtle threat.

Habba? I'm not familiar with that term, what does it refer to? Or did you mean Jabba, which is certainly fitting on multiple levels.

[-] [email protected] 22 points 6 months ago

Habba is the name of an incompetent lawyer working for Trump.

She's his worst lawyer, and he's had some stinkers.

I mean, it makes sense the quality of lawyers trend downward when you try to stiff each one of them on their payment...

[-] [email protected] 3 points 6 months ago

Ah, thanks. Maybe I should pay closer attention to the people surrounding him than I currently do.

[-] [email protected] 11 points 6 months ago

No. No, don't do that. It's a waste of time.

[-] [email protected] 40 points 6 months ago

It sounds like a blatant admission of corruption. Trump's lawyer just admitted that he expects a quid-pro-quo from Kavanaugh.

[-] [email protected] 4 points 6 months ago

Yeah, that was them talking to Kavenaugh because they're not actually that confident with him.

Know which justice Kavenaugh disagreed with more than any other last term?

Thomas.

Yes the 14th amendment is very clear. See you in court.

[-] [email protected] 17 points 6 months ago

The Supreme Court hasn't cared about clear language or precedent before.

[-] [email protected] 4 points 6 months ago

they pretty much threw out the standing requirement in order to shitcan Biden's attempt to forgive student loans. They're a disgrace.

I have complete faith that this illegitimate "supreme" court will rule in whatever way causes the most harm for normal people. That is their function.

This is the best summary I could come up with:

Habba’s reference to Trump “going through hell” was to a stormy confirmation during which Kavanaugh was accused of sexual assault, which he angrily denied.

“The Trump administration outsourced judicial selection efforts to [the rightwing activist] Leonard Leo and the Federalist Society, who hand-picked the current conservative majority, funded their confirmation battles, and have been rewarding them with off-the-books gifts and luxury travel ever since.

“The former president’s lawyer asking judges the Trump administration appointed to ‘step up’ to shield him from consequences is disgraceful and raises significant questions about the independence of the court.”

Michael Kagan, a law professor at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, sounded a “legal ethics alert”, adding that if Kavanaugh “feels in any way that he owes Trump and will ‘step up’, then [Habba] should be sanctioned by the bar for saying this on TV and thus trying to prejudice a proceeding.”

Trump incited the deadly January 6 attack on Congress in 2021, an attempt to stop certification of his defeat by Joe Biden.

In a supreme court filing in the Colorado case, lawyers argued that only Congress could resolve such a dispute and that the presidency was not an office of state as defined in the 14th amendment.
