If done well nitrogen hypoxia should be like falling asleep and never waking up. If you fuck it up by somehow not removing CO2 fast enough, it feels like suffocating.
It's probably better then lethal injection, but still really fucked up.

Am I missing something obvious as to why they don't use firing squads? Is it a matter of "optics" or so whoever's making the lethal* injection juice can sell at a huge markup?

It's a better form of execution than lethal injection but death penalty should be reserved for billionaires and fascists post revolution.
With billionaires, take away their money and let them pick a working class job. If they're really some big brain business genius they'll rise up the ranks soon enough. If not, they won't. Make it a reality TV show.

The death penalty is so weird in America. Most young people think we should get rid of it. But old fuckers love it. I have heard on multiple ocasions in the bible belt that 'eye for an eye' is a good system. America is in the dark ages

If I were getting executed I would prefer to just be shot in the head and die like a person. I still don't get why the US has to do all these looney toons ass methods of execution. Is it to strip away any small bit of dignity from the prisoner?

It’s farcical. They could inject prisoners with Nembutal or something and it would be a painless death but instead they use those shitty lethal injection drugs which both don’t always work, lol like in this case, and are known to be incredibly painful
Not tested as an execution method, but we do know what happens to people who die of it. Marginally better version of a horrific act that the state shouldn't be allowed to do in the first place.
Edit: Fucking nope. May as well be the gas chamber with hydrogen cyanide again.

IIRC the only reason we haven't brought back gas chambers w/ inert gas as a method of execution is the bad optics.
