Thinking about it now, I still adore how Madiha's writing in general went from "above serviceable, pretty decent even" to "I am reading poetry with every paragraph" between Book I and Book II. The scene where Homa is sitting on the train, staring up at the massive imperial tower out the window, and feeling insignificant and powerless is so evocative and effective. Shit's fucking awesome, it suddenly became A Novel with lots of narrated long walks overnight.
