Wow, the only anime with a transgender girl as a protagonist is from the 80s?! Mangaka are almost always clueless when it comes to gender. Did they somehow independently come up with the concept? Cause it's not like mangaka ever research gender before writing about it... Let's see if anyone asked about it in an interview.
Oh! She's an egg born in the wrong generation. That explains it.
I've read a bit of the manga and while the base character/setting isn't bad (especially for the 1980's), there's some odd plot points and problematic aspects. I feel like it could be sooooooo much better if redone for a modern audience. I mean, a trans girl dealing with trans issues who's also both a badass and a yakuza boss' daughter has so much more potential imo. Maybe we could reach out to the mangaka and crowd fund a reboot or something.
A whole bunch of 80s anime are being remade. There's hope...
