Uh I don't wanna go on Letterboxd anymore. Every time a movie has even the slightest whiff of the gays in its undertones, people go absolutely feral, as if Interview with the Vampire is actually good. I get it, right, but can we hold ourselves to slightly higher standards than that? I'm not against people enjoying things, I just dunno y'know? I wish I saw what they saw in stuff like Nightmare on Elm Street 2.
Also my feet hurt I wish I was watching movies about scary transgender autistic dykes!!!!!!!
Nightmare on Elm Street 2 is infamously the gay one, it's not particularly subtle but was made in a time before you could just say "oh yeah this kid is struggling with his sexuality and he lives in a time when being gay meant you were evil so that's the movie"
It being so gay was very awakening for me
Many such cases
I actually do like Elm Street 2, but I wish I could find a way to read its subtext that was less negative. Also the whole gym teacher thing is so weird Idk.
The straight writer made it into a gay allegory because he clocked the lead actor, who was a closeted gay man. The film outed him and ruined his career. Fuck that movie, it's also dogshit in general.
