Welcome to c/news! Please read the Hexbear Code of Conduct and remember... we're all comrades here.

Rules:

-- PLEASE KEEP POST TITLES INFORMATIVE --

-- Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed. --

-- All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. --

-- If you are citing a twitter post as news please include not just the twitter.com in your links but also nitter.net (or another Nitter instance). There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/libredirect/ or archive them as you would any other reactionary source using e.g. https://archive.today/ . Twitter screenshots still need to be sourced or they will be removed --

-- Mass tagging comm moderators across multiple posts like a broken markov chain bot will result in a comm ban--

-- Repeated consecutive posting of reactionary sources, fake news, misleading / outdated news, false alarms over ghoul deaths, and/or shitposts will result in a comm ban.--

-- Neglecting to use content warnings or NSFW when dealing with disturbing content will be removed until in compliance. Users who are consecutively reported due to failing to use content warnings or NSFW tags when commenting on or posting disturbing content will result in the user being banned. --

-- Using April 1st as an excuse to post fake headlines, like the resurrection of Kissinger while he is still fortunately dead, will result in the poster being thrown in the gamer gulag and be sentenced to play and beat trashy mobile games like 'Raid: Shadow Legends' in order to be rehabilitated back into general society. --

If you have evidence of Israeli crimes and atrocities that you wish to preserve, there is a thread here in which to do so.

Sources on the fighting in Palestine against Israel. In general, CW for footage of battles, explosions, dead people, and so on:

UNRWA daily-ish reports on Israel's destruction and siege of Gaza and the West Bank.

English-language Palestinian Marxist-Leninist twitter account. Alt here.
English-language twitter account that collates news (and has automated posting when the person running it goes to sleep).
Arab-language twitter account with videos and images of fighting.
English-language (with some Arab retweets) Twitter account based in Lebanon.
English-language Palestinian Twitter account which reports on news from the Resistance Axis.

English-language PalestineResist telegram channel.
More telegram channels here for those interested.

Various sources that are covering the Ukraine conflict are also covering the one in Palestine, like Rybar.

The Country of the Week is still Palestine, though we will switch next week to a new country.

Here is the map of the Ukraine conflict, courtesy of Wikipedia.

The weekly (biweekly?) update is here.

Links and Stuff

The bulletins site is down.

Examples of Ukrainian Nazis and fascists

Examples of racism/euro-centrism during the Russia-Ukraine conflict

Add to the above list if you can.

Resources For Understanding The War

Defense Politics Asia's youtube channel and their map. Their youtube channel has substantially diminished in quality but the map is still useful.

Moon of Alabama, which tends to have interesting analysis. Avoid the comment section.

Understanding War and the Saker: reactionary sources that have occasional insights on the war.

Alexander Mercouris, who does daily videos on the conflict. While he is a reactionary and surrounds himself with likeminded people, his daily update videos are relatively brainworm-free and good if you don't want to follow Russian telegram channels to get news. He also co-hosts The Duran, which is more explicitly conservative, racist, sexist, transphobic, anti-communist, etc when guests are invited on, but is just about tolerable when it's just the two of them if you want a little more analysis.

On the ground: Patrick Lancaster, an independent and very good journalist reporting in the warzone on the separatists' side.

Unedited videos of Russian/Ukrainian press conferences and speeches.

Telegram Channels

Again, CW for anti-LGBT and racist, sexist, etc speech, as well as combat footage.

Pro-Russian

https://t.me/aleksandr_skif ~ DPR's former Defense Minister and Colonel in the DPR's forces. Russian language.

https://t.me/Slavyangrad ~ A few different pro-Russian people gather frequent content for this channel (~100 posts per day), some socialist, but all socially reactionary. If you can only tolerate using one Russian telegram channel, I would recommend this one.

https://t.me/s/levigodman ~ Does daily update posts.

https://t.me/patricklancasternewstoday ~ Patrick Lancaster's telegram channel.

https://t.me/gonzowarr ~ A big Russian commentator.

https://t.me/rybar ~ One of, if not the, biggest Russian telegram channels focussing on the war out there. Actually quite balanced, maybe even pessimistic about Russia. Produces interesting and useful maps.

https://t.me/epoddubny ~ Russian language.

https://t.me/boris_rozhin ~ Russian language.

https://t.me/mod_russia_en ~ Russian Ministry of Defense. Does daily, if rather bland updates on the number of Ukrainians killed, etc. The figures appear to be approximately accurate; if you want, reduce all numbers by 25% as a 'propaganda tax', if you don't believe them. Does not cover everything, for obvious reasons, and virtually never details Russian losses.

https://t.me/UkraineHumanRightsAbuses ~ Pro-Russian, documents abuses that Ukraine commits.

Pro-Ukraine

Almost every Western media outlet.

https://discord.gg/projectowl ~ Pro-Ukrainian OSINT Discord.

https://t.me/ice_inii ~ Alleged Ukrainian account with a rather cynical take on the entire thing.

BBC journalists 'crying in toilets' over Israel-Gaza output

https://www.thenational.scot/news/23881014.bbc-journalists-crying-toilets-israel-gaza-output/

BBC journalists have allegedly been “crying at work” over the corporation’s “dehumanising” coverage of Palestinians.

Concerns were raised during meeting this week that the BBC had been too lenient on Israel, with staff left crying in toilets and taking time off work over the approach to the conflict.

An email setting out fears that the BBC was “treating Israeli lives as more worthy than Palestinian lives” was sent to Tim Davie, the director-general.

“What Hamas did was atrocious and nobody is excusing its actions, but the mood from a lot of people in the building is that we aren't getting the coverage right,” a source told The Times.

“Staff have been crying in the toilets and freelancers have been sacrificing earnings by not showing up to work because of the distress caused.”

In another email to Davie, Beirut-based correspondent Rami Ruhayem said that he had “the gravest possible concerns” about the output.

“Words like ‘massacre’, ‘slaughter’ and ‘atrocities’ are being used prominently in reference to actions by Hamas, but hardly, if at all, in reference to actions by Israel,” he said.

“Does this not raise the question of the possible complicity of the BBC in incitement, dehumanisation and war propaganda?”

He claimed the BBC was frequently going easy on Israeli officials and allowing them “comfortable airtime”.

“The BBC has taken upon itself in recent years the task of fighting fake news, disinformation, hate speech and such things, a trend in western media,” he said.

“Where is the content analysing the flood of incitement against Palestinians and tracking its impact?”

Journalist John Simpson earlier this week said the BBC has received an almost equal number of complaints about it being biased towards and against Israel.

“People rail at the BBC because they hope they can force it to come down on their side; and when that doesn’t happen — and it’s not going to — they get angrier still,” he wrote in the New Statesman.

You're definitely on the right side of history when even western propagandists can no longer stomach your racist imperialism.

Lmao. This breaking out when the West was still propagandized to hate a war that involves bombing cities is just too good.

The cognitive dissonance is breaking their propagandists.

And you see, by heightening the contradictions, we....

Journalists doing "disnfo and cry." Fuck off. Maybe BBC employees should just tell their bosses to get fucked instead of just doing their part covering up a genocide.

[–] [email protected] 24 points 1 year ago

I agree, but I also find myself encouraged by the number of formerly complacent libs facing a moral crisis over this. Maybe some will find the courage to do the right thing. Crying doesn't fix the problem, but I do believe it's a necessary first step. You SHOULD be sad and angry. Im not absolving anyone of the part they play in a genocide because they found some shred of humanity within themselves and feel bad, but now that they have done this, I hope at least a few of them will act in a positive way to address that grief and dissonance.

Lord knows when I radicalized, I spent some serious time reckoning with my feelings first

What Hamas did was atrocious

Words like ‘massacre’, ‘slaughter’ and ‘atrocities’ are being used prominently in reference to actions by Hamas

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

To be fair their complaint isn't that those words are being used about Hamas but that they aren't also being used about Israel, so it's not exactly incompatible.

Sad to hear they realized they are propagandists so late. I thought those people knew and accepted such reality when they started to be journalists or somewhere along the way. People I hated for being propagandist are only realising they are propagandists now, I thought they knew all along. I thought they were evil, but now it seems they could be good but idiot. Especially unexpected considering this is bbc not some other news outlet few people knew

Journalists are selected by promoting the ones that believe the narrative, they aren’t asked to change their beliefs openly.

If you have different beliefs, you are simply never hired or promoted.

It’s a system that maintains “freedom of speech” as an illusion even the journalists believe in.

To comrades here, read Manufacturing Consent by Noam Chompski or Inventing Reality by Michael Parenti. Mandatory theory reading - if you don't do it you're a LIB

Me, a big-brained individual with the biggest of brains: The reporters aren't actually crying in bathrooms. This is propagated on purpose to get people to sympathize with reporters even as people's opinion of MSM further deteriorates. By getting people to sympathize with reporters, it leaves room for MSM to reestablish trust between people and MSM.

[–] [email protected] 13 points 1 year ago

oh it's so sad for them :(

I'm tired of hearing about how sad supporting Israel is making Liberals, and how much it hurts their conscious. Strike or write something good or shut the fuck up and keep crying in the bathroom

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

awwww the poor little goebbels feel bad for participating in a genocide, im sure theyll change their ways clueless
