A disproportionate number of the space-race era astronauts came from Ohio. Something about that place just makes people want to risk everything to go somewhere else, I guess.

Oh my fucking God. Please, let this be even funnier than last time PLEASE :bateman-ontological:

We should make billionaires dying at the bottom of the ocean an annual thing.

[–] [email protected] 44 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago) (1 children)

Could be a global affair

Pine-Boxing Day (Commonwealth countries)

In-The-Deep-Endce Day (Mostly the USA even though a lot of countries have independence days)

Sad-turnalia (Pagans)

Hubristmas and Seaster (Christian world)

Pall(bearer)entine's Day (Worldwide, I guess)

Sinkran (Thailand)

Holi Diver (India)

Corpse-us Cristi

Sinko de Mayo (Mexico)

steering-device please die please die please die, it would be very funny

[–] [email protected] 49 points 4 months ago (1 children)

I mean it was kinda already a farce last time

[–] [email protected] 34 points 4 months ago

The tragedy was the Titanic sinking in 1912 and the farce was the Titan imploding last year

[–] [email protected] 49 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago) (3 children)

dont worry nerds instead of this one steering-device i heard they will be using a switch controler this time

[–] [email protected] 33 points 4 months ago

playing subnautica on my switch and getting joycon drifted into a reaper leviathan

[–] [email protected] 29 points 4 months ago

They better remember to put the wrist strap attachment thing on, otherwise the next hull breach might be caused by a flying joycon.

[–] [email protected] 15 points 4 months ago

smh, real divers use a Wii Remote(TM) with the Wii Motion Plus(TM) accessory and a custom-made reinforced wrist strap

Wasn’t the industry already safe prior to the implosion? Didn’t James Cameron go down to the titanic wreck like 50 times before cellphones existed?

[–] [email protected] 49 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

the thing is that J. Cameron used an actual research sub instead of a self made comercial submersible piloted by a longitech controler steering-device

[–] [email protected] 35 points 4 months ago

infinite submarine on the billionaire world

Going please-save-me as my vanity project sub suddenly stops moving and starts to slowly sink at 30,000 leagues below sea level while I look through the windows at the wreckage of the last sub I sent down here

[–] [email protected] 21 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago) (1 children)

30,000 leagues below sea level

actually "leagues" is a measurement of distance travelled and not depth.

30,000 leagues if used as a measurement for depth would be ~90,000 miles which would put you somewhere in space on the other side of the earth, which I would also be fine with but I couldn't help but engage in little a pedantry as a treat.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 4 months ago (1 children)

it was a reference to the book of the same name but i got the number of leagues wrong by mistake: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Twenty_Thousand_Leagues_Under_the_Seas

Pooping one last time in the submarine bucket in the corner

[–] [email protected] 29 points 4 months ago

[–] [email protected] 26 points 4 months ago

I read on Reddit about a fucking horrific diving accident that occurred where four fucking people in Trinidad got sucked into a fucking oil pipeline. I guess one managed to crawl out and be rescued but the others were in there for days waiting for help that never came. That wasn't coming. They decided not to save these poor people. While the oceangate sub got all this media circus bullshit

[–] [email protected] 26 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Alas it's a real sub this time and not a piece of PVC piping with some weights attached.

Orca JDPON has the chance to do something really funny. sicko-orca

[–] [email protected] 23 points 4 months ago (1 children)

[–] [email protected] 19 points 4 months ago (2 children)
