It makes me feel like a fucking idiot every time. I never see a fucking adult trip and fall like I do, and don’t tell me it’s OK or whatever, please—I want to know if it’s normal.

Um, no. If you’re having a problem with trolling you need to talk to a doctor about balance and mobility issues.

No. That is not normal. It is, however, a common symptom of chronic drug abuse / drug withdrawal.

Loss of motor control can be a symptom of either but that is a really weird first conclusion to draw and one that most people abusing drugs or going through withdrawal are keenly aware of

It is not a "weird first conclusion to draw" when talking to a chronic drug abuser. And I say this as a fellow addict: I was not aware that neurological symptoms like that could persist post-withdrawal—even for years!

I'm posting from a place of concern and comradery, not judgment.

How do you know you're talking to a chronic drug abuser? That's the weird conclusion

[-] [email protected] 14 points 3 days ago

Because I know who the person I'm talking to is, and I have a memory.

Follow-up: I said what I needed to say, addict-to-addict, and discussing it further won't be productive. I am disengaging.

Okay, I don't on both counts and a lot of people here may not either, so it's maybe not appropriate to bring up if OP hasn't

Aside from the recommendations of seeing a doctor, coordination issues can also be the result of dehydration. If I notice I'm stumbling later in the day it's almost always the result of not drinking water

[-] [email protected] 11 points 3 days ago

No that is not normal. If you trip on something (which happens from time to time) you should be able to place your other foot forward to regain your balance and keep yourself from falling.

Being clumsy is an trait common in people with autism, ymmv.

It's not just social information that gets mixed up but pretty much everything. I have to catch myself at least once a month but I haven't had a fall in a bit.

[-] [email protected] 7 points 3 days ago

Nope, see a doctor

[-] [email protected] 8 points 3 days ago

No, that's not really normal. Really only happens when I'm under the influence.

I trip and fall all the time, but that's because I am paraplegic. Start with your normal doctor.

[-] [email protected] 5 points 3 days ago

No. I trip and fall all the time myself, have since I was a very young child from my hoarder's collection of diseases.

Sometimes its neurological or the result of other diseases/medications, in my case its a very simple poor gait issue I didn't get addressed until I fell down some stairs 3yrs ago and fucked up my leg. Most people walk heel to toe, I walked toe to heel, there's a stability difference. Basically, I was a stealth toe walker. and nothing says no fun like learning how you're supposed to walk in your 30s. Along with seeing a doctor about this before you fall and get super hurt like me I'd suggest checking out how you walk.

[-] [email protected] 5 points 3 days ago

Do you trip on air or things? If you trip over things all the time you're just unlucky.

[-] [email protected] 6 points 3 days ago

How's your hearing? Inner ear problems can fuck up balance.

[-] [email protected] 6 points 3 days ago

Only normal if you're a cute anime girl in a sad, sad world.

[-] [email protected] 5 points 3 days ago

I'm a doctor of humans and I think this means you have a severe case of lib.

I'm sorry.

[-] [email protected] 4 points 3 days ago

Inner ear things. Some of it is age related.

Eyes having different "vision" with glasses that can't completely correct the worst eye. Makes depth perception ever so slightly off, very noticeable for me when there's low light, yellow tinged lighting or dark colored things on other dark colored things.

That's just my room >.>

I fall more than a lot of other people. I'm clumsy and have bad spacial awareness. I walk into the coffee table and such. I think it's dyspraxia as I'm autistic, it can be embarrassing when you fall like a bag of spuds

What is "normal"?

I look at the ground a lot, and my dad used to tell me to pick up my feet. Over rough terrain, I seem to trip less than most people, but over pavement that has the occasional wonky brick I seem to trip a lot.

Sandals and thongs (flipflops) make it worse.
