Anarchism is a social movement that seeks liberation from oppressive systems of control including but not limited to the state, capitalism, racism, sexism, speciesism, and religion. Anarchists advocate a self-managed, classless, stateless society without borders, bosses, or rulers where everyone takes collective responsibility for the health and prosperity of themselves and the environment.

Giuseppe "Pino" Pinelli (1928 - 1969) was an Italian railroad worker and anarchist who fell to his death on this day in 1969 while being detained by Italian police. His death became the subject of the play "Accidental Death of an Anarchist" by Dario Fo.

Pinelli was a member of the Milan-based anarchist association named "Ponte della Ghisolfa", and was also the secretary of the Italian branch of the Anarchist Black Cross. He organized young anarchists in the "Gioventu Libertaria" (Libertarian Youth) in 1962 and helped found the "Sacco and Vanzetti anarchist association" in 1965.

A few days before Pinelli's death, Italian fascists from the "Ordine Nuovo" orchestrated a bombing campaign in Milan; one bomb in Piazza Fontana killed 17 people and injured 88. The bombing was blamed on Italian anarchists, and Pinelli was detained along with many other leftists, including Pietro Valpreda, who was falsely convicted and served eighteen years in prison.

Just before midnight on December 15th, 1969, Pinelli fell to his death from a fourth floor window of the Milan police station. Three police officers interrogating Pinelli, including Commissioner Luigi Calabresi, were put under investigation in 1971 for his death, but legal proceedings concluded it was due to accidental causes.

Calabresi was later gunned down at his home in 1972, for which left-wing journalist Adriano Sofri was convicted in 1997.

Some of the new users are about to be surprised by the vehemently anti-west/NATO position of the site lol antelope-popcorn

[–] SuperZutsuki@hexbear.net 18 points 1 week ago

Hopefully they have an open mind and the time to read 10,000 pages of theory.

[–] Bureaucrat@hexbear.net 17 points 1 week ago

I was hoping they'd find the trans mega first before seeing the Mao memes or whatever lol. I personally had a wacky few months integrating into the site, never posting, but actively asking myself "Am I being radicalized in real time?"

The answer was yes, but in a good way.

[–] FunkyStuff@hexbear.net 15 points 1 week ago

Yeah but I feel like we historically are good enough at keeping users who have some lib brainworms about geopolitics so long as that doesn't manifest itself as racism. They'll learn the ropes unless they're more attached to kkkrakkkerdom than their leftism.

I don't think I can leave hexbear. I was talking to someone who I thought was a comrade on tiktok. She said we need to fix rascism before we can fix capitalism. I said that in the examples we can see fixing capitlaism decreased rascism and I am inclined to follow the examples of successful cadres around the world in this. Which ironically means centering PoC voices which is good for fighting rascism. Workers of the world unite. She called me a tanky and blocked me. I have been here so much that I forgot she ment that as an insult. I know I don't get to be the final arbiter on this but I am pretty sure her refusing to listen to ML leaders in AES countries is a chauvinst responce. I feel like we were having a nice conversation about idealism vs materialism and then I got hit with the thought terminating cliche

Ya know when someone random pops up in a dream? Just checked in on an old friend I haven’t seen since pre-COVID on Facebook to see what they’re up to because they were in my dream last night. Turns out they moved to Israel like 18 months ago and have been posting Zionist shit.

When I first met them they were a Jewish anti Zionist and now they’re literally an Israeli coloniser lol. What the hell. Feels like finding out somebody died.

i remember reading this quote from stalin a while back, and i keep thinking about it when watching the events of the world unfold. so i figure i share the quote

What would happen if capital succeeded in smashing the Republic of Soviets? There would set in an era of the blackest reaction in all the capitalist and colonial countries, the working class and the oppressed peoples would be seized by the throat, the positions of international communism would be lost.

i then think about this LOTR meme

i dunno, i just been feeling low on the morale and have been struggling to get myself to do things

Got a pal crashing on my couch rn and just was about to go to sleep myself and got up to pee first. He cleaned toilet at some point. Like, the inside, with a brush. It needed a clean before he was here and doesn't now. It wasn't awful or anything but it's noticeably cleaned. The outside isn't at all. Weird.

CW misogynyOk so I bought a drawing guide book because I want to learn anatomy, and it really annoys me that the majority of the faces and body features are male, but the majority of the nudes (lile 90%) are female. I'm trying to draw all people why are only men treated as people with features worth drawing and women treated as only worth drawing when nude.

[–] Moss@hexbear.net 14 points 1 week ago

If I read this entire book and took everything I learned from it I could draw detailed white men and naked white women Except it doesn't even explain much, it just shows sketches and is like "draw this". The illustrator uses cross hatching all the time but never explains how to properly do that

I'm enjoying all the bluesky people, feels like a very friendly group. Way less hostility than the federation influx. I have found the earnest usernames kinda funny by comparison to what's become the standard Hexbear username style of a reference to the most obscure communist you've never heard of or the weirdest pun ever (frequently both). Seeing names like AceTransCommunist is adorably not ironic.

Normally, I would never beg for upvotes. However, I just asked a burning question I have about dialectical materialism in the philosophy comm; and it looks like that the last post there was over a month ago. So I’m worried our local philosophy-heads will never see it without upvotes. If you all wouldn’t mind to take a second to upvote this and support your obscure comms on hexbear!

People who have read Harry potter, why did the wizards even need slave elves anyway? They can just kinda use magic to do any labor effortlessly

[–] Blakey@hexbear.net 14 points 1 week ago

Saw an interesting take on this recently. Rowling decided it would be great to have her hero emancipate a slave, but she's so dedicated to neoliberalism that literally any systemic change - even ending the slavery of imaginary beings in her pretend universe - is unthinkable. So we end up with "uh actually they just like being slaves, it's part of their nature". But because she's completely invested in white supremacy and neoliberalism she can't even see how fucked up that is.

You are a prisoner in a room with 2 doors and 2 guards. One of the doors will guide you to freedom and behind the other is a hangman–you don't know which is which, but the guards do know.

One of the guards always tells the truth and the other always lies. You don't know which one is the truth-teller or the liar either. However both guards know each other.

One guard says to the other, β€œthat shirt looks great on you.” The other replies β€œshut up, Greg.”

I cannot be normal even for phone calls. I am thankful that this means I do not mask much anymore, but every time I say Hi, I am calling about thing, I was directed to this number regarding thing, the reaction is always presumably-stunned silence followed by verbal fumbling full of "um" a lot. I guess I'm just not using The Prescribed Scripts For Making Calls, but it feels weird that every time I speak to someone, it's a curveball for them...

Was reading Domineco Losurdo's Western Marxism over a pint at the pub last night and heard the question I dread when I'm reading a text like this in public.

"What are you reading?" the server asked as he was bringing me the bill. I took a breath and explained yes bud actually I am some sort of weirdo actually (I actually just explained the premise of the book) and he was like "oh interesting! I studied philosophy in university with a minor in political science, who wrote it?" and ended up asking if he could take a snap of the cover before peacing haha

Goodish news: no promises but I landed a second interview for a job that will get me out of Ohio to a more blue state AND the city will be walkable (although I’m not going to say which one for opsec.) so I want to study the company to make sure I nail this interview. The one thing I worry about is possible discrimination for not being a local (I’d gladly relocate on my own dime.) Does anyone know any tips for nailing an interview for a non-local β€œout-of-network” job? I have zero connections anywhere so I can’t just nepo baby my way to success.

Still pumped, it could mean that my life might finally start in earnest. I can finally make friends, actually work, and more. I just hope to still save up so I can go back to college for a STEM degree and get a higher paying job.

FREE MOTHER FUCKIN GAMES I have some steam keys left over from the Jingle Jam charity bundle of games I already own, if people would like them here they are.

Dungeons & removed Gamblers (the filter gets this one every damn time)rouge like deck builder based around black jack. you add silly cards like the 14 of clubs or the communist party card to your deck. great game I loved when it first came out

WH4GA-WN3XF-KPMQE

Frostpunkdystopian semi story driven but replayable city 'builder' (more like cling on to what's left)

CPX3Q-K3XM9-MA35Y

Shadows of Doubtnoir immersive sim with silly procedural generation elements. owned this game since launch, never got around to it lmao, perpetual "yeah...I should play that...some time"
