When the Ukraine war kicked off there were Ukraine flags all over the place. All the lib houses with the "we believe in signs" had it up. Now I'm not surprised they aren't flying Palestinian flags right now, but I haven't seen a single one and I'm in "blue hole" part of the country. I would expect to see something more than the occasional pin or button. It pisses me off that people still have out their sunbleached Ukraine flags while there is a blantant genocide going on. Truly it reveals the liberal libidinal urge for permission.

Is there a better place to buy a Palestinian flag than amazon?

EDIT: I dont expect the same houses flying Ukrainian flags to fly Palestinian flags. I just expect some homes in my city to be flying a Palestinian flag. Its such a blue hole that theres actually a socialist presence. I know there's people who support Palestine here. I'm not worried about a Zionist lynch mob.

As others have said, libs don't support Palestine, but also I feel like the more common way to demonstrate solidarity is to wear a keffiyeh.

Also you won't get accused of antisemitism for flying a Ukraine flag.

Because the ADL is a ridiculously outsizedly powerful lobby with data collecting and doxxing operations on dissidents and a misstep can end your ability to find gainful employment, possibly forever. Read up a bit on their pro-apartheid activities back in the day, it's crazy.

Is it just fear thats keeping us back? Again, I'm in a blue hole, its very likely that I might just break a seal. Here's hoping.

pretty much. same reason i don't fly a trans flag even though i think it'd be cute.

i am weak to fire and bullets

[-] [email protected] 9 points 7 months ago

There's trans flags all over here. Pretty normal for a business to put one In a window.

There is literally a whatsapp group of rich investors and CEOs and Israeli agents going around getting random people fired for supporting Palestine

https://jackpoulson.substack.com/p/inside-the-pro-israel-information

[-] [email protected] 9 points 7 months ago

Yeah but they're targeting people who matter like journalists, professors, journalists, altheletes, etc.

You must keep an appropriate threat model if you're gonna get paranoid about surveillance. Reactionary neighbors, local police, landlords; these are people who might take your politics personally. But to billionaires and such you're just a statistic.

[-] [email protected] 20 points 7 months ago

I'm sorry that's not the case.

As the Israel-Hamas war began to heat up in late October, Courtney Carey, a Dublin-based employee of the Israeli website building company Wix, posted the Irish words “SAOIRSE DON PHALAISTIN” -- “Freedom for Palestine” -- on her LinkedIn page.

Within 24 hours of Carey’s LinkedIn post appearing, Alon Ozer, a Miami-based investor, took a screenshot of the post and shared it with a WhatsApp group of more than 300 like-minded investors, tech executives, activists, and at least one senior Israeli government official. Ozer took care to note that Carey worked for Wix.

Honestly a lot of it probably has to do with young people not owning houses and a lot of renting situations banning you from displaying any kind of flag or sign, I think that's standard in a lot of leases now, Palestinian support skews super young at least in North America so not surprised that older house owning libs aren't taking a moral stand.

I assume you live in America? Here in Ireland Palestine flags are everywhere, they were before the current war but even more so now. There's probably ten times as many Palestinian flags as there are Ukrainian flags at this point

[-] [email protected] 26 points 7 months ago

Ireland once again proving themselves to be the only good western country.

[-] [email protected] 23 points 7 months ago

It turns out that being the blueprint for western colonisation makes a country pretty sympathetic to anti-colonial causes

[-] [email protected] 13 points 7 months ago

Ireland is always on the right side of history because they were the first victims of the British Empire, so they decided they would take the opposite side of the British from then on, which by default puts them on the right side of history.

The only one I've seen is some gigantic Chevy suburban with the entire hood and doors painted like Palestinian flags and also flying a huge one on a pole off the back. Gave them a big thumbs up while I was walking and they honked back.

[-] [email protected] 31 points 7 months ago

Most of the people whose hearts were bleeding for Ukraine either support Israel or think it's just too complicated, which is supporting Israel with extra steps

[-] [email protected] 31 points 7 months ago* (last edited 7 months ago)

Because Ukraine is a neo-nazi comprador regime defending the imperial core and Palestine is an actual embattled and colonized nation. Imperial core propaganda inverts these relationships and pretends they are the opposite. In imperial core propaganda Ukraine is an embattled and colonized nation and Palestine is a neo-nazi comprador regime.

Also people ARE flying palestinian flags, but they are not shown on the news because that does not ally with imperial core propaganda.

[-] [email protected] 10 points 7 months ago

Good point that Zionists are trying to smear Palestine with descriptions that match the Ukrainian state exactly, and they Liberals like to pretend Ukraine is a smol bean Palestine

express ticket to get hate crimed especially if you're brown. Like that student that got shot and paralyzed

[-] [email protected] 29 points 7 months ago

Incidentally, on the train ride yesterday, passing through a little part of the Norwegian countryside, I saw a lone house flying the Palestinian flag. I cracked a little smile.

[-] [email protected] 28 points 7 months ago

Not sure what you mean? The Venn diagram of those who support Ukraine and those who support Israel are practically a circle.

Honestly, because I am afraid of being harassed and losing my job.

[-] [email protected] 26 points 7 months ago* (last edited 7 months ago)

Because while it’s good to fly them during a protest or everyday out and about, flying a Palestinian flag on your front porch will likely result in someone burning your house down or shooting at it.

It’s one thing to be attacked while you’re in a crowd of people or awake - you can defend yourself or have others help you or run etc. - but it’s another thing to be sleeping and waking up to your room in flames and collapsing

It's nuanced, unlike the invasion of Ukraine which just had us supporting Nazis no issue

Same blue “we stand with Ukraine” house by me now has “we stand with Israel” stuff

There are still Ukrainian flags all over the place where I am, only a couple fewer.

People don't fly Palestinian flags because they don't want a brick in their window or to be branded an anti-semite. Ukrainian flags carried no such risk, Azov be damned.

[-] [email protected] 22 points 7 months ago

I live in an area with a lot of pro israel jews, i dont know how im supposed to not be mad. They are bad people and before oct 7th i didnt really think much of them at all

[-] [email protected] 19 points 7 months ago

Maybe where you live

Here you in Chile you cant get more than 100 people together without someone yelling Aguante Palestina

[-] [email protected] 17 points 7 months ago

I was wondering this, too, since I've seen my area have huge pro-Palestinian rallies. I have a flag up, but it's the only one I've seen anywhere in the city.

Then I saw this shit and now I get why people might be hesitant https://wgntv.com/news/chicago-news/logan-square-resident-faces-eviction-over-display-of-palestinian-flag/

[-] [email protected] 15 points 7 months ago

I'll wear a Palestine hat (and have gotten some wary looks by Boomers for it), but a flag does seem a good way to get it waaay worse, tbh.

[-] [email protected] 12 points 7 months ago

There's a lot of them around me. I see kids walking to school wearing flags as capes.

The only one i've seen recently was a cursed Palestinian-flag-over-top-a-Ukrainian-flag. Looked horrible and confused me for a second, especially since the flags weren't going the same direction.

[-] [email protected] 15 points 7 months ago

There's the a fair amount of people who actually support both Ukraine and Palestine. They're probably also constantly confused with how the world is moving.

[-] [email protected] 11 points 7 months ago* (last edited 7 months ago)

It’s not that complex. Pro-Ukrainian propaganda was significantly more successful than Pro-Israeli propaganda. Ukraine was a flash in the pan for many people, whereas the Palestinian genocide was broadcasted directly to the eyes of many people. Russia and Ukraine at least had the optics of a war with two armies fighting each other. Many people don’t see Hamas as Palestine’s standing army.

[-] [email protected] 9 points 7 months ago

They'll figure it out once they stop confusing window cleaner for juice.

I live in a Ukranian neighborhood in Chicago and am too nervous to display a Palestine flag. Could easily see someone throwing rocks through my window, which is a risk I would be willing to take if I didn't love my cats so much.
