Any time someone posts that meme of the US military cargo plane dropping countermeasure flares that vaguely look like an angel, invoke II Corinthians 11:14 and watch them get mad.

A majority of the PAVN and NLF leadership and officers were old veterans who previously fought Japanese occupation during WWII, and French occupation during the 1950s. To say that they were all just plucky civilians who took up arms to fight the Americans is inaccurate. Many of them were already experienced soldiers.

Then a few years later they liberated Cambodia and fought off an attempted occupation by China in 1979.

Vietnam was a force to be reckoned with well before the US tried to get its claws in it.

Trump bladed (CW: blood, references to self-harm in link) like they do in pro wrestling.

Seriously though, we are probably fucked. And not just libs, but everyone to the left of MAGA.

I played Empires of the Undergrowth but it seems development has stalled a bit.

I went through a box of old family photos taken by my grandparents in the 60s and 70s. One of the most jarring things about them is how many outdoor pics have snow on the ground. I just assumed most of them were taken around December/Christmas, but then I see months like October or even April hand written on them.

I live in the same town those pictures were taken in and it hardly ever snows here anymore, save for a couple days January. It snowed literally once this past winter, and it wasn't even enough to justify bringing my snow blower out to clear the walks because it melted within hours.

It's like the 1500ml water bottles that are next to the 1500ml Pepsi bottles. Beyond the cost of the plastic, water and filtration (pretty much the same bottle and filtered water that's used to make Pepsi) there's no fucking reason they should be the exact same price.

Games too. The digital download is exactly the same price as the physical. And these days there's no reason to even get the physical anymore because the game isn't actually on the disc. It's just a script that opens the game store and downloads it.

Same with celebrities any time one dies, even when they're well past the average life expectancy and/or had a long illness that was diagnosed pre-covid. Comment threads, especially on YouTube and Facebook, full of "Safe and effective?" comments.

I thought celebrities were in on the whole thing and wouldn't have taken the jab.

I'm actually surprised there were never conspiracies about Ahmadinejad and Fauci being the same guy. Ahmadinejad was like a chud boogeyman for years until covid happened.

I get rubber-legged standing on the third highest rung of a tall ladder (the highest rung you can safely put your feet on). I don't know how some people are able to stand on the very top and do their work without a care in the world. One misstep or something collides with the ladder from below and you're fucked.

From what I read the bridge was built in 1898 and had its last major overhaul in 2004. NYC has seen hotter temps than 95°F/35°C during those 126 years. It got up to 108/42 degrees in 1936 for example, and broke 100/37 several times since 2004.

I feel like there's more going on there than mere thermal expansion, which should be accounted for in a rotating swing bridge like this. I don't know much about geology but could the ground on either side shift enough without, say, an earthquake causing it?

My favorite are the people who hate the big city because of the traffic, but are also opposed to any alternative form of transportation (bike lanes, trains) that would take more vehicles off the roads.

I've been coal rolled, had beer cans and other garbage thrown at me and almost clipped nearly every time I go out biking. And I live in a town with some decent bike infrastructure. If I ever retaliated, you can bet these assholes would be on Facebook in an instant talking about how aggressive and entitled cyclists are.

Rats have gotten into the confiscated marijuana at the vermin-infested and decaying New Orleans Police Department headquarters, the city's top cop warned.

"I want you to see the tray of all of the roaches, major rodents on the floor, the cockroaches, the rats eating our marijuana. They're all high," Police Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick told the Criminal Justice Committee on Monday about the evidence room.

The current department headquarters houses substandard facilities with broken air conditioners and elevators. Officers "have nowhere to use a restroom," according to Kirkpatrick.

I guess Carano's post-Disney movie career with Ben Shapiro wasn't paying the bills. With Musk having skin in the game this shitshow is gonna be so fun to watch, but the better part of me knows Disney is just gonna settle out of court for some undisclosed amount and the chuds will say they "won."

Going by social media reactions, I'm seeing these street-blocking protests getting praises from both people on the left and the right. I'm trying to decipher what I can by translating French articles on the matter but I'm still not entirely sure what the ideology behind this protest is.

I mean, going against a colonialist government is always based, but I'd feel a little icky supporting the movement if it's chuds throwing a tantrum that they're forced to pay their workers living wages, or can't dump pigshit into waterways or something.

More often than not, the plots are a variation of "woman in the big city gives up her job, leaves her (admittedly bougie and shitty) boyfriend, and moves back to the small town she grew up in where she hooks up with her old boyfriend who, in spite of his working class salt-of-the-earth appearance, has money."
