So I’m modifying a pair of men’s shorts to fit me, and I am realizing that I’m just into waist-high shorts. Ideally for the more “masculine” look (under current patriarchy etc etc) I would have my shorts sit around my hips and not my waist but come on. Waist high shorts just look so much better. Even when it comes to long shorts (these are like, typical men’s shorts that go down to the knee and I like that about them. I just also want them to be waist-height).

What makes high-waisted better?

I think I was trying them on and pinning the fabric to fit me and such and I tried a fit where men’s shorts would typically sit, and my brain immediately went “nope nope nope” so honestly I don’t think there is a rational reason in my head

Nah, you're right. Shorts that go from the waist to the knee would cut a good figure

Understandable though, and tbf I also prefer high waists =)

Moving the waistline upwards makes the legs seem longer and the upper body shorter. A high-waist fit can also accentuate your hips, and if you have a bit of a gut, having the waistline directly underneath that makes it poke out more.
