But it does other things!! Like many hormones it has a whole suite of signaling effects

I remember cell signaling in bio chem or genetics and thinking it was fucking ridiculous how we get like one hormone that tells another to release that tells G proteins to get released that tells cAMP to be produced and on and on. It's all down to homeostasis and apparently this soup is the outcome of billions of years of evolutionary optimization
