wth, that's awful. At some point doesn't the obligation to keep the child alive and without suffering permanent damage supercede whatever objections the parents have? In a sane country it definitely would.spoiler
Eventually we have to consider it abandonment but parents have a wide latitude in deciding the course of their kids' treatment (we try not to do things without consent anymore or against parents' consent). We eventually convinced these parents to allow us to put on nasal prongs for oxygen in their kid, I didn't push it and ask if we can draw bloodwork or start an IV now and just let her scream it out until she fell asleep.I was getting DV vibes or controlling/emotional abuse vibes from one of the parents but I couldn't get them to leave so I can ask the kid and the other parent, which is always frustrating. No suspicious marks and they followed instructions on not yelling and swearing in wee hours of the early morning on the pediatrics ward after they did the one time so I have no basis for separating them out. I've seen one parent and their kid be pretty compliant and good and then the bad one shows up asking why we're doing stuff and threatening to leave AMA and yelling and cowing the kid and the other parent to stop taking treatments and it's all very frustrating
