Welcome to c/news! Please read the Hexbear Code of Conduct and remember... we're all comrades here.

Rules:

-- PLEASE KEEP POST TITLES INFORMATIVE --

-- Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed. --

-- All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. --

-- If you are citing a twitter post as news please include not just the twitter.com in your links but also nitter.net (or another Nitter instance). There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/libredirect/ or archive them as you would any other reactionary source using e.g. https://archive.today . Twitter screenshots still need to be sourced or they will be removed --

-- Mass tagging comm moderators across multiple posts like a broken markov chain bot will result in a comm ban--

-- Repeated consecutive posting of reactionary sources, fake news, misleading / outdated news, false alarms over ghoul deaths, and/or shitposts will result in a comm ban.--

-- Neglecting to use content warnings or NSFW when dealing with disturbing content will be removed until in compliance. Users who are consecutively reported due to failing to use content warnings or NSFW tags when commenting on or posting disturbing content will result in the user being banned. --

-- Using April 1st as an excuse to post fake headlines, like the resurrection of Kissinger while he is still fortunately dead, will result in the poster being thrown in the gamer gulag and be sentenced to play and beat trashy mobile games like 'Raid: Shadow Legends' in order to be rehabilitated back into general society. --

RIP to him, obviously we all have our criticisms but reading How the World Works in my mid 20s was literally my first real encounter with leftist ideas, the first crack in my worldview that the US was a moral leader marching everyone to a bright future.

edit: actually he's still alive, EAT SHIT YOU TURBOLIB TRAITOR

This is just Chomsky manufacturing consent to die

I think it's quite nice that Noam gets a chance to hear the nice things people will say about him after his death with all these early obituaries posted.

I think some people might wish that folks had said nice things to them before they died.

Jose Santana who worked with Chomsky is claiming to have talked to his wife and that he's fine.

Translation:

Noam Chomsky is alive!

At 3:41pm EDT today the 18th of June 2024, his spouse, Valeria, confirmed to me that Noam Chomsky is recovering his health. The rumors about his death are false. #NoamChomsky

A Chomsky croaks a thousand times before his death, but the liberal croaks but once.

It seems to me most strange that men should prematurely publish obituaries, seeing that death, a necessary end, will come when it will come.

I'm going to have a drink in honour of Chomsky tonight. Not because he's dead or anything but because he always sounds perpetually thirsty and my throat is getting dry just thinking about the guy.

[–] [email protected] 24 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Let me email him. He always replies

[–] [email protected] 21 points 3 months ago

Lmao this is true but he recently had a stroke and everyone panicked because he (finally) stopped responding to every email he received while convalescing.

[–] [email protected] 21 points 3 months ago

he has risen

That link working for anyone?

Varoufakis penned an obituary in The New Statesman but that page isn't accessible:

https://www.newstatesman.com/ideas/2024/06/the-noam-chomsky-i-knew

Jacobin dropped one but I'm having trouble getting that to load as well.

Edit: Looks like Jacobin dropped an obituary, possibly too soon and they may have retracted it along with the other publications. It's kinda funny how everyone has their obituaries drafted and ready to publish at a moment's notice when a major figure is getting closer to kicking the bucket, in a dark sort of way.

Yeah, looks like Jacobin might have jumped the gun on this one:

Their website is currently down but this tweet has been deleted since they posted it and the associated obituary.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I couldn't find anything on Google news confirming it yet. Just stuff about him recovering in Brazil.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Damn, looks like the internet archive didn't get a capture of either of the obituaries. I wanted to read the spoilers!!

Nice catch!

Looks like the Jacobin obituary was re-posted?

Italian and Spanish-language newspapers are reporting on this yet reports are a bit conflicting, with some news outlets retracting their posts and also this very recent tweet:

[–] [email protected] 15 points 3 months ago
[–] [email protected] 14 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

The Chomsky sub posted tweets from an ABC reporter and MIT research associate saying he is still alive.

Source: his wife.

Who? Is this one of those rappers or streamers you kids are always talking about

[–] [email protected] 11 points 3 months ago
[–] [email protected] 9 points 3 months ago

Honestly more surprised he's still alive

And reverted back, and then re-edited, and then reverted back again, and now they have a "STOP REPORTING CHOMSKY AS DEAD" message that comes up when you try to view the page source. chomsky-yes-honey

[–] [email protected] 9 points 3 months ago

Everything I've seen says "unconfirmed"

[–] [email protected] 6 points 3 months ago

The only way to survive, is to not die

[–] [email protected] 5 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I'm getting conflicting signals. What's going on?

[–] [email protected] 4 points 3 months ago

It's Schrodinger's Chomsky.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 3 months ago (1 children)

What if the reason Kissinger finally died is that old Chompers stole his phylacteries.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 months ago

Maybe they swapped seats on the plane. We just gotta wait it out for the sequel.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 3 months ago

rip-bozo

Or not WHATEVER

[–] [email protected] 3 points 3 months ago

Sadly, Nim Chimpsky is still beyond the veil.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 3 months ago

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 months ago
