✅ Western chauvinism

✅ Apathy

✅ Infantilization

Westoids never fail to disappoint. The liberalism on Lemmy has hit all time high. I'm so tired.

White man's burden is still the western foreign policy. Never changed.

The good news about posts like this is that they make me appreciate hexbear-chapochat a lot.

nostupidquestions

There is now one stupid question.

[–] [email protected] 57 points 10 months ago

I'm just exhausted. "Unlike you, I believe the cop at my school is human." "I just can't endorse the use of violence." "We can't win anything if we're mean to people." "Hatred never got us anywhere."

Oh, where were you when all of the oppression was happening?

"I didn't agree with that, either."

Didn't think to smugly chide those in power, though, now did you? Because that's inevitable, but our response is unjustified escalation . . .

This site is the only place I can look at news and politics discussion without feeling like I am completely insane

You cannot convince me this is not a child. This is baby's first reddit atheist moment (and I say this as a reddit atheist).

The most Reddit comment to ever exist. Only missing a porn reference and the word "bacon" in there.

"why not just deploy some dual faithed Messiah figurehead"

He's actually asking for CIA Jesus?

[–] [email protected] 20 points 10 months ago

"Why don't we just trick all the simple minded brown people with a shiny new religion?"

Gee I wonder why Americans have a global reputation as being somehow both condescending and self righteous and simultaneously dumber than dogshit.

smuglord Have they considered just not believing in a freaking sky wizard, since that's all this conflict is really about?

I took a look at their profile, and found casual ableism and misanthropy, the reddit-logo runs deep.

[–] [email protected] 12 points 10 months ago (4 children)

I blame Dune for injecting this idea into Liberal minds

I didn't used to understand foreign involvement in wars. I still don't understand but I used to not understand too.

[–] [email protected] 47 points 10 months ago (3 children)

this is one of the propaganda lines that westerners have been fed about the war. some of the ones I can think of:

  1. this war has been going on forever

  2. this is a religious conflict

  3. it's extremely complicated and ~nuanced~

for each one of these, the conclusion is "well, we can't really do anything about it, it's unsolvable". in reality, any reading of the history tells you that it hasn't been going on all that long, it has next to nothing to do with religion, and it's not complicated. Israel is clearly in the wrong, and there is a clear way to end the conflict practically overnight.

[–] [email protected] 36 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago)

Yep, blew my mind when I realized the people who were saying "it's a thousand year old religious conflict, an eternal battle between jews and muslims" were 100% full of shit. Israel was invented after WW2 and is a pretty clear cut colony and occupier. It's so simple it's hilarious, Israel is completely illegal and illegitimate

[–] [email protected] 13 points 10 months ago (2 children)

Israel is in the wrong but I don't think there's a way to end it overnight

[–] [email protected] 37 points 10 months ago (1 children)

the US is basically the only country that provides diplomatic cover for Israel, every other country in the world is sick of their shit (as witnessed by endless UN resolutions). end all aid to them, end all diplomatic cover, sanction them into oblivion, and I guarantee you the occupation is over within a week.

I have bad news to you about the other garden countries.

Isolate Israel diplomatically, cut off their funding from Europe/America and watch them slowly dissolve as the military breaks down and most of the population moves back to their original nations of origin.

[–] [email protected] 42 points 10 months ago

this is a certified us-foreign-policy moment

[–] [email protected] 36 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Is that person American? Do they really think of a country born out of genocide just a few hundred years ago is more "adult" than the cradle of civilization itself, continually occupied by humanity since beyond memory, which has seen the rise and fall of countless nations and empires

i didnt used to understand foreign involvement …

hey everyone the war understander has logged on.

[–] [email protected] 31 points 10 months ago (1 children)

This imaginary of the non-European world as inherently stationary and needing to be dragged [by the West] into civilisation kicking and screaming naturally gravitated towards biological explanations of power relations. Within this context, invocations of [...] infantilising tropes were not just distasteful transgressions or individual eccentricities, but rather a way of justifying the imposition and monitoring of a wide range of juridical practices of domination and disciplining.

Ntina Tzouvala, from “Capitalism as Civilisation.”

I was readying a whole rant and your quote covered all my points succinctly. But I want to feel like I'm part of the discussion so I'll just regurgitate relevant stuff from media I enjoy

"Centrism isn't change -- not even incremental change. It is control. Over yourself and the world. Exercise it. Look up at the sky, at the dark shapes of Coalition airships hanging there. Ask yourself: is there something sinister in moralism? And then answer: no. God is in his heaven. Everything is normal on Earth."

[–] [email protected] 27 points 10 months ago (4 children)

I didn’t used to understand foreign involvement in wars

But I can see why after watching this Israeli Palestine Conflict since birth.

Do adults need to intervene to quell the infants?

First of all, that's racist as fuck. Second of all, are they saying what I think they are?

[–] [email protected] 17 points 10 months ago

Liberals are back to 2001 era "glass the desert" rhetoric.

"yeah, i've been paying attention to this conflict pretty much since i was born. don't think anything important happened with it before i was born so that's pretty much enough for me to comment on it."

[–] [email protected] 17 points 10 months ago

bro just smoke a bone and mellow

[–] [email protected] 15 points 10 months ago

Do adults need to intervene to quell the infants?

smuglord with implications of lethal retaliation against what they call infants. Reddit brain, not even once.

[–] [email protected] 14 points 10 months ago

Its physically painful that most people think like this. Then they point fingers and say that other countries use propaganda and their citizens are clueless about reality.

[–] [email protected] 14 points 10 months ago

Except in this analogy somebody came into your sandbox, drew a little circle and said that's yours and the rest is mine, keeps knocking down the sandcastle you built in your circle for several decades and then when you got mad and knocked down one of his once your parents kill you.

[–] [email protected] 12 points 10 months ago

While my partner didn't have a brain dead take like this, I did have to give them a thorough explanation earlier on why the Israeli occupation is unacceptable and always will be until the settlement is removed. My partner is aware of some terrible policies and why those policies shouldn't exist, but hegemonic diasporas simply aren't on their radar. I'm just glad they're receptive and try to understand rather than falling prey for dumb hot takes like the screenshot above.
