had a dentist appointment today and at the last moment i just said "naw" and stayed home because i couldn't deal with the possibility of them looking at my chart and saying "estradiol and spironolactone?". i don't even know if they have access to a chart like that but fuck it, i can't deal with that shit

From experience, almost no one knows what those two medications are. Only some people do; They just assume I’m on birth control and that’s not often.

i figured "estradiol" was so similar to "estrogen" that most people could figure it out, but i guess not.

god i feel fucking AWFUL today because of that

I understand why you do, but you shouldn't. It's an understable fear and I've ditched more important things for less valid reasons.

When I was working in a chemistry lab and a bio student, I had no clue what it was. Was using it to improve aeration of a liquid. I assumed it was some small molecule with two -OH groups and maybe thought it was funny its name was similar to estrogen, but didn't think someone would consider using estrogen for such a weird thing.

My dentists always ask and I have to spell "cyproterone acetate" for them, it's incredible. Next time I should just tell em I'm on CROSS SEX HORMONES sicko-power

My experience has been that my dentist does not automatically get a list of all of my prescriptions, instead they ask me what I'm taking. I think you would be fine lying and not mentioning E and Spiro. Also my cis male dentist didnt realize what those meds do, only the cis female assistant knew what estradiol was (she was very nice about it)

This is my experience as well, at least the first part.

Oh I feel that. Half the time when I go to the doctors the nurse in taking me basically shouts that I'm on estrodiol and Spiro. Sometimes I also get someone (if I'm boympdkng) shout "Ms (my last name) and then looks extremely confused when I walk up.it always sucks. But also it's just... Idk it sucks for a second and then it's not a big deal. Not fun tho

Fun story, when I last got my eyes tested the lady testing me asked me if I was on medication and I told her flat out what I was on and why. I could tell she was taken aback in that she'd a) not realised I was trans and b) never seen or known anyone trans. (seeing as the part of Ireland I'm from is highly conservative and not a very nice place). It then resulted in her asking me a few questions as she was testing me, light hearted she seemed excited lol and she was nice.. it helped me relax some so not every experience can be bad but I understand the apprehension of wanting to not say anything.

I get scared of that too but the only time a doctor just pulled up my chart and saw that I was taking estradiol and cyproterone acetate he didn’t say anything. Also, spironolactone at least is actually used for a ton of different stuff even by cis men so I don’t think they would infer you’re trans just from that

Eternal struggle of every trans woman in any healthcare setting. Are they gonna be weird about the fact I'm on hrt? Is it actually relevant? Am I gonna get diagnosed with trans broken arm syndrome? Sometimes you gotta conceal that shit and not disclose - dentists almost certainly do not have access to your medicine chart fwiw. Spiro you might wanna disclose if you're doing something more intensive than teeth scaling (i.e. cleaning) just cause it maybe could mess with some of their dental drugs (like their GA drugs). If the dentist is putting you under you might wanna pause E.

Every time I go to the dentist they keep asking me if I've been on some drug I barely remember taking like 10+ years ago and it somehow never gets updated. That shit's staying on my chart forever. One of these days I'll learn how to work through it but... ugh

I absolutely do not tell doctors about my meds unless it's actually relevant. I doubt your dentist will have access to like gp medical records or anything.
