I threw away about 80% of my wardrobe, I want to go for a more nonbinary wardrobe. Anyone has useful resources and such? For summer weather, I have to add, it's hot here and I feel it limits me quite a lot in this regard as I don't like showing skin that much. Clothes here are very expensive so I was looking to get some stuff over from Temu as I've gotten things from there before. I'm completely garbage at color theory or basic fashion
edit: and fashion advice in general, I always said I go for the practical looks but don't want to look bad
If you want to adopt my idiosyncratic fashion: go to thrift stores, get flannels, get short shorts, get cargo pants, get band shirts, get lots of colors, get some skirts, get some dresses.
Everything here is so expensive, even a single item of clothing, so that's why I was mainly looking on Temu and such. I'm not into fast fashion so I usually avoided things like Shein but at this point any other retailer is unaffordable. I was looking to get cargo shorts and long cargo pants, as I haven't had any until now. I was going for black, cause it fits with everything, but idk
I don't really like (t-)shirts as I perceive them as "manly" so perhaps I can get some oversized ones, and idk I can't get band shirts if I don't listen to music, or that band, seems weird.
Dresses and skirts I would really like to try, but I sadly can't in my current environment.
You donβt listen to music
Good luck, anyway!
I never could find music I like, I can't focus on the lyrics. I've always listened to it to ignore the world around me mostly, as easy-to-filter background noise. I wish I could find something I vibe with, but so far not really. Might be how my brain works, I have no idea, never had a relationship with music.
Interesting, you are my polar opposite in that respect.
Nearly all my waking life Iβve had lyrics and melodies playing in my head constantly. Itβs an extra layer of brain activity in addition to cognition and metacognition that protects me from understimulation I suppose.
Mine's just the beats, usually, no lyrics. I can't visualize anything lyric-related
I barely know color theory and I'm an "artist". I do like clothes though... I don't know what your environment limits so you can take or leave what I say here.
High-waisted bottoms can create a really nice femme silhouette. Tucking a t-shirt into some high-waisted pants is an instant look. For bottoms, black is always a great color but I also love the look of brightly colored long pants too, I think it's super fun.
I love tank tops. There are many different styles. I often make my own by cutting sleeves off of t-shirts because I'm really into DIY, but idk if that's something you're interested in. I searched up "tank tops" on Temu and I'm seeing some cute stuff in the women's section. If you don't like showing skin, tank tops make a great underlayer. Tank top + button-down short-sleeve is a classic nonbinary look imo.
On that note, short-sleeve button downs! Especially if they're a bit oversized and baggy? Fantastic look. Again, seeing some cool shit in the Temu women's section.
I also really like billowy, light blouses. There are a million different styles of blouses to choose from in women's clothing and not all of them are even overtly femme. A super light blouse is also really good for being in hot weather but also covering a bit more skin. I personally am a fan of blouses with really drapey, flowy sleeves. Blouses also come in so many fun patterns. The world of blouses is infinite.
Also, a nice, slouchy cardigan or two is always helpful. Can instantly tie an outfit together. I prefer my cardigans oversized and comfy.
For patterns, I love everything plaid. I also really like pinstripes, I find them really flattering. Sometimes I like checkers too, but I'm way more picky with that. Plaid is forever. I also don't think you have to worry too much about color-picking when it comes to clothes; most colors go with each other. And a lot of people love pattern-clashing in outfits.
I DIY a lot of my clothes and I could go way more into that, but I left it out of this post. If anyone is interested in that, lmk!
I have some baggy copper-ish jeans I use for high-waisted bottom looking and it's great yeah!
Raised as amab I've internalized a very anti tank top rhetoric to say the least, jokes about them being the "woman beater" look and such, and dysphoric in general as I always said they are very masculine
I'll try to make a list of clothing and see what I find, thankyou vm!!
And sure, DYI info would be much appreciated, I like the practical usage and looks:3
Woah, those sound like amazing jeans!
And yeah, I know that tank tops can lean masc, that's probably my personal bias showing there. Femme tank tops are shaped quite differently, but then that can get into "showing skin" territory so yeah, might not be a great idea.
Oh, you don't realize what you've unleashed, I can talk about DIY nonstop! Will probably type out an effortpost and post it to the mega later, I'm excited
ya, they're my favorite ones, really nice!
I never tried DIY stuff so I'm curious. Currently, I'm looking at tank tops, and preferably short high waisted cargo pants but they're all for hand washing and not machine washing which sucks
I always cover up in the Summer because I have translucent skin, and I like being pale
For ideas on clothing I'd check different clothing online like look at what styles of shirts for example and make a note of what you like, same with other items until you get a list and even save some pages so you can reference when shopping or looking for clothing that compares.
You want lighter airy clothing for the heat with breathable fabric. One set of rules to work with would be baggy/loose top tighter fit bottoms and vice versa. For example oversized hoodie with leggings or slim jeans. Or cargo pants with tank top.
Mix and match styles to suit your taste. Dress shirt with light pants is also a nice more formal look. Same with colours. Black and white are generally slimming and work well to mix in some colours.
Thrift, 2nd hand or making your own are ways to pay less
Hope some of this helps
I have zero taste in clothing as I haven't really been able to develop one in the first place so I don't want to look awful
I've never really thrifted anything yet due to hygiene issues mostly but I don't think it's that big of a deal if everything's washed properly }
Thankyou!
It's easy enough to window shop. I'd recommend just looking online at clothing and make notes of what stands out to you to build up an idea of styles you like.
Most places wash the clothes but you can always wash clothing yourself or handwash if need be.
Yep, thank you!! Shall do
