In other news I saw someone not reveal what book she was reading because "there is only one person with my brainworms", in which case I am SO FUCKED

Tbf she meant like, you could doxx her by finding the academic papers she writes since no one else writes on those books. Like I said on matrix that's why I don't talk about my theses here because both of them are very particular and you could easily doxx me once they're published if you even just knew the authors they're about. Basically you're safe since you aren't writing academic papers on the silly queer books.

I don't think it's risky, use flluffychat on your phone. It's way more secure than Discord for instance. Mostly I'm just a ball of anxiety about it but good talk does happen in there. No harm making an account.
Oh yeah most matrix clients are trash if we're honest, very sad.
