I was trying to figure out a way to weave this story into my post but couldn't. Being forced to drive in traffic is bad enough without the threat of being filled with lead
I fucking hate new york state. I really don't know how we have a reputation of being a progressive state when the politicians make it a priority that if poor people want to actually have public transportation they better know they're at constant threat of being gunned down by the gestapo.

Yea but everybody in new yprk knows that only dems win in the state so everybody just calls themselves a dem (trump) and as a result we get "liberals" like Eric Adam's who's top priority is siding with cops against people trying to smoke legal pot.
Adams himself was a registered Republican for most of his life.
And Dem voters are either conservatives or too dumb to see they're being bamboozled over and over again.
Imagine shooting someone over $3 in unpaid fares
Literally not firing the gun would have been the fiscally responsible decision.
Wasted $30 in ammo and shot like 6 people to stop somebody from not paying less than $3.
While costing the victims thousands of dollars in medical bills.
Wonder if any would be tempted to sue the city. If they win that'd be probably be a few million more just to stop a fare dodger
I know someone who's motorbike got stolen in Atlanta and the cops tracked the lo jack, then initiated a high speed chase that included a helicopter and briefly shut down part of the atlanta airport. They found the bike dumped in a forest near the airport and it ended up totaled out. This was a new bike, but like, an 8k one. When the person asked the cops why they went through all of that for such a cheap bike, they straight-up said they like causing high speed chases and exercising authority.
It's not about the money, it's about them getting to be cruel on your dime and you not having any recourse to stop them. They get off on that.
Cops are the largest gang in the world. And like all gangs, they have to flex their power so nobody tries to take over their territory.

The cop quickly had to sort their inventory of handguns, this gun is for threatening my ex-wife, this gun is to shoot service workers over my cold burger, ah yes the shoot a black kid in the back for jumping fare handgun.
Can't wait for Adams' next primary opponent to run against him not because cops are shooting people over unpaid subway fares, but because the rounds of ammunition spent in the process were more expensive than the fare and so it's not efficient fascism.

I think there's no way that's the reason they shot at him, I think it's more likely to be a power trip situation where they literally just wanted to kill someone. There's no world where a cop shoots at someone for jumping a turnstile as an enforcement tactic, that's just attempted murder for the first plausible excuse the pig could identify.

Mostly a subtle fear anytime I see cops in the subway. And a bit more now that there are some National Guardsmen in some of the bigger stations with their fingers on their automatic rifles.
