Théophile Ferré was a leader of the Paris Commune who was executed by the French government on this day in 1871. Ferré personally authorized the execution of the archbishop of Paris and was the first of 25 Communards to be executed.

Little is known about Ferré's early life, before his participation in the Paris Commune. After Paris was seized by revolutionaries in March 1871, Ferré served on the Commune's Committee of Public Safety, a body given extensive powers to hunt down enemies of the Commune.

On April 5th, the Commune passed a decree that authorized the arrest of any person thought to be loyal to the French government in Versailles, to be held as hostages. Prominent figures arrested included a Catholic priest Georges Darboy and the archbishop of Paris. The Commune hoped to exchange their hostages for Louis-Auguste Blanqui, a revolutionary and honorary President of the Commune, imprisoned by the state.

Following the events of the "Bloody Week", in which the French government summarily executed many suspected Communards, Ferré authorized the execution of several hostages, including Darboy and the archbishop.

After the resistance of the Commune collapsed, Ferré was captured by the army, tried by a military court, and sentenced to death. On November 28th, 1871, he was shot at Satory, an army camp southwest of Versailles. He was the first of twenty-five Communards to be executed for their role in the Paris Commune.

Shout out to Magic Missile. All these fancy chromatic orb and burning hands users running around don't understand the utility of a guaranteed hit and damage.

Just tossing together a family of monsters. Fun sitcom premise. Can’t make it today because of woke or something

so why don't folks make multigenerational stories anymore?

(obviously they still do, but it was more common in the past)

Arcane, for all its really really really good, telling this story of class, imperialism.. it probably needed a longer period to cook and deserved a more complex family dynamic than parent-child.

My favorite multigenerational story is Kim Stanley Robinson's Mars trilogy.

Isn't that just "This Is Us"?

I've only heard the Chapo episode about it but apparently they jump between different generations of the family in a lib non linear way

Replaying Baldur's Gate 3, this game is so good but the surprise/ambush mechanics are super wack and janky to use. Unironically it would hugely benefit from a patch to update it to the 2024 surprise rules where instead of getting a full free turn, you just get advantage on your initiative roll. it also needs some tweaking on how getting in and out of combat functions - I should not be trying to click my abilities faster than the NPC takes their turn like I'm in a real time game!

@ Larian let me romance Jaheira you cowards.

My preferences with BG3 companions are like Shadowheart >> Jaheira >>>>> everyone else but I can't date druid elf mommy so I guess we're dating Shadowheart again on our Tactician run. Love Karlach as a character but don't find her too attractive, same with Lae'zel. Minthara is just... too evil. Maybe I'll try Wyll, I'm not too into men but that dancing scene at the beach is so freaking cute I might make an exception.

Anyone else have an issue where they can speak two languages fluently but can’t translate between them for shit? Like if I'm remembering a story in one language but telling it in the other my thoughts just fall apart, more so than when I’m telling a story in other contexts anyway.

I feel like I'm being subjected to a podcast bit with my bluesky experience, the discover feed just keeps showing me like gay guy thirst traps and I feel like this literally is not something I've ever heard anyone mention?

Like I just keep getting guys taking selfies in their underwear or accounts named shit like "chicago daddy dom", and of course there's nothing wrong with that costanza-maoist (<- only seinfeld emote I could find)

But I just don't wanna see these guys and their underwear on my feed all the time, and I don't know how to tell this app that without just making a giant blocklist of just gay guys, which in itself feels like a modern seinfeld subplot kind of problem.

It's peak parasocialism that you can watch azan argue with his reactionary uncle on a holiday for 3 hours instead of doing it with your own reactionary uncle

VTuber/streamer postingUnless this is a massive fake out by Fauna, looks like this is just Hololive graduation season--Aqua, Ame, Chloe, and now Fauna all in the space of three months. I only followed her very casually on her previous account (LemonLeaf) so I didn't even realize she'd joined Hololive for like a whole year until I saw a random clip and was like, "Wait, I know that voice..." She posted a few random clips on her original channel recently which made me suspicious, but a "serious announcement" stream all but confirms it.

I feel like she's really come into her own during her tenure at Hololive, so I hope she can have even more fun once she's freed of the corpo shackles! She's by far my favorite Holomem (vegan life sciences nerd with a comfy aura and a mischievous streak, what's not to like?) and tbh I mostly watched her for her solo yapping/gaming streams so I don't feel like I'll be missing out too much on interactions with other members and such. Wonder if/how much she'll overhaul her character design...seems sort of incongruous now that she's doing a more natural voice

I wonder how much of this is Cover becoming more ruthlessly profit-driven as a result of going public last year, thus increasing the workload on its talents (I think all of them have cited overwork), and how much is people just naturally wanting to spread their wings (and stop forking over a huge chunk of their paycheck) after building up a following. I've always suspected that, even considering the recent nastiness with Selen/Dokibird, the primary difference between Hololive EN and Nijisanji EN is not the actual internal company goings-on but that HoloEN's numbers are so bonkers that the pay would be enough to smooth over a lot of issues and make people think twice about leaving, whereas for NijiEN there's less loss aversion because even the top members have relatively low viewership (Luxiem's peak notwithstanding); it's possible a shift in company priorities has tipped the scales. Very curious to see how things develop going forward.

edit: confirmed graduating January 3rd
