The site's already been infected by bots recreating previously upvoted posts with automated ghost accounts. Why not make it even worse?

We're going to have to retvrn to small forums whether we like it or not at this rate. Or we could just keep what we're doing and throw all online communication into the transient void of 🤢 into 🤢 into the transient void of Discord 🤮🤮🤮

[–] [email protected] 38 points 6 months ago

I prefer the small forums. They felt more like a community and this site is a good example of that

[–] [email protected] 32 points 6 months ago (3 children)

God I can't fucking stand Discord. We used to use Teamspeak, Skype, Mumble, Vent, whatever for voice chat and maybe some small-scale comms, but big communities were always on forums, in games, whatever. You'd have to go somewhere that can actually handle a big community to participate with your community. But now they've just jammed these giant communities into fuckin Skype 2 and it does not work

[–] [email protected] 24 points 6 months ago

Strong agree. Discord is such shit, I hate it. It can't do what Teamspeak does, it can't do what a forum does, and you're not even allowed to fuss with the ui per their tos (betterdiscord is good)

Never should have left.

Lmao wasn't the whole API thing supposedly to prevent AI companies from having all that info?

It was just about money.

[–] [email protected] 67 points 6 months ago

It was so Reddit could sell the info instead of having it freely available

[–] [email protected] 48 points 6 months ago

Twitter and reddit both tightened their APIs because they realized the monetary value of the user contributed content. Certainly not that they didn’t want AI to be trained on it, just that they didn’t want to give it away for free.

[–] [email protected] 54 points 6 months ago (1 children)

I've been saying the problem with chatbots is there isn't one that has the personality of a bloodthirsty liberal

[–] [email protected] 13 points 6 months ago

Couched in the inseparable smugness of smuglord

[–] [email protected] 20 points 6 months ago (1 children)

[–] [email protected] 19 points 6 months ago

I wonder what kind of shit an AI trained on Hexbear would say

[–] [email protected] 52 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Bug-eating PMC DSA Karens need to invest more in black mold futures.

Death to Palestine! Unlimited Genocide on indoor cats!

[–] [email protected] 21 points 6 months ago

I mean you can check out the chapotraphouse bot on subreddit simulator. Chatbots are not new tech

[–] [email protected] 18 points 6 months ago

A Markov bot that posts using exclusively Hexbear posts would be pretty funny. Bonus points if it only uses stuff from the first year, those were fun times :^)

[–] [email protected] 41 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Ohhhhh. That's why they didn't want us saying to kill slaveowners, they're going to train their army of AI slaves on it.

[–] [email protected] 36 points 6 months ago

Went to the tech sub to see what people were saying. Only funny thing was someone saying to use burner accounts on "this stupid CCP propaganda machine". They're so close, just gotta remove one word.

Also lol, as if burners matter when 1. reddit cares deeply about tracking users between accounts to protect their precious upvotes and 2. you're still feeding the machine.

[–] [email protected] 34 points 6 months ago (2 children)

is reddit still talking about doing an IPO now that they destroyed a huge chunk of their Monthly Active Users

[–] [email protected] 25 points 6 months ago

I haven’t checked in on that, what’s the long term damages been since APIgate?

[–] [email protected] 19 points 6 months ago

I betcha they've got a ton of bot traffic hiding in the numbers they show the money men

[–] [email protected] 33 points 6 months ago

The fediverse might be able to win the posting wars by guaranteeing that there are real people on it.

[–] [email protected] 30 points 6 months ago (6 children)

I wonder what the AI makers will choose to do:

  • Train models on the full dataset, and have them come out trash because even a little AI-generated content poisons the training data

  • Train models only on pre-2020 data, and have it be completely out of date on news and culture

  • Train a markov model instead, because you don't need the cutting edge to generate "epic bacon narwhal le gentlesir"

[–] [email protected] 13 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Train its models on porn subreddits to generate AI art for its user base.

I like this given how much of reddit is bots replying to bots replying to bots. I'm no longer removing anything bad.

[–] [email protected] 28 points 6 months ago

The whole website is already r/subredditsimulator, how could it possibly get worse?

[–] [email protected] 23 points 6 months ago

A Reddit-pilled AI?!

[–] [email protected] 22 points 6 months ago

all redditors already speak like bots with the same tired ass phrases and terrible beaten to death jokes so shrug-outta-hecks

[–] [email protected] 21 points 6 months ago (2 children)

I expect this to lead to the end of 'reddit + your question here' on search engines soon enough. Time to break out a huge hdd for that eye redarc and diy.

I'm not saying I want Hexbear to seed an AI, but it would be funny as shit

[–] [email protected] 17 points 6 months ago

How long would it take for the Hexbear AI to make the Reddit AI cry?

[–] [email protected] 20 points 6 months ago

oh cool it keeps getting worse!

[–] [email protected] 19 points 6 months ago (1 children)

If you still have your log-in credentials, it might be fun to go through old posts and replace a smattering of them with the text generated output of a Bing search.

[–] [email protected] 22 points 6 months ago (3 children)

There's a tool to replace all your comments with gibberish.

[–] [email protected] 16 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Yep. I suggested Bing because it's feeding a text programme's output into the input of another

[–] [email protected] 12 points 6 months ago
[–] [email protected] 12 points 6 months ago

I just do that naturally

Oh shit I keep forgetting to nuke my account. Anyone got a link that tool that helps you delete all your comments and save all your saved stuff?

[–] [email protected] 14 points 6 months ago

I already assumed most reddit threads were just AI talking to each other anyway.

[–] [email protected] 14 points 6 months ago

I'm even more glad that I nuked all my accounts over there a few months ago.

[–] [email protected] 12 points 6 months ago

can't wait for reddit AI to tip its fedora at me and correct all my typos
